US President Donald Trump delivered a strong warning to Iran during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, while also suggesting that a diplomatic deal with Tehran could still be possible.

At the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, President Donald Trump called Iran the world’s biggest sponsor of terrorism, warning of severe military action if it doesn’t end nuclear ambitions and support for terror, while suggesting a diplomatic deal remained possible.
Trump said Iran remained a serious threat to the United States and accused the country of being the world’s biggest sponsor of terrorism. He called on other nations to join Washington in putting Iran under complete economic isolation.
Trump Gives Iran Two Possible Paths
According to Trump, Iran must stop attacks on commercial shipping, abandon its nuclear ambitions and end its support for terrorism. He said Tehran now faced a choice between rebuilding its country through an agreement with the US or facing severe military action.
“I have a big decision to make: when the deal can be made, do we rebuild and create a far greater country than it was before – maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East, or even the world? Or do I annihilate? And do I annihilate quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries? Do I drive them into hell, with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness and adoration?” he said.
Iran May Wait For US Midterm Results
Trump also suggested that Iran could be waiting to see the outcome of the US midterm elections before deciding whether to negotiate with Washington.
“What they don’t realise is that I’m not running. I did, and won, an election, and I’ll be here for two and a half more years. The Republican Party is running, and I’ll be helping them,” he said.
The remarks come as the conflict involving Iran has crossed the 200-day mark, with the US continuing to focus on Tehran’s military capabilities and nuclear programme.
Trump Claims Iran Is ‘Weak, Desperate’
Trump claimed that US military action had destroyed Iran’s entire military infrastructure and again ruled out allowing Tehran to obtain a nuclear weapon.
“The terrorist regime is behaving badly, not because they are strong and confident but because they are weak and desperate. If we stand united, we will soon see a world free of the last 51-year menace of Iranian terror,” he said.
Trump also said Iran had rejected an economic cooperation proposal offered by his administration after he returned to office. He warned that the US had enough ammunition for military operations and was producing weapons at record levels.
