At least seven people, including four police personnel, were killed and more than 20 others injured after a suicide bomber targeted a peace rally in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday.
Seven people, including four police officers, died and over 20 were injured after a suicide bomber detonated explosives near a police station during a peace rally in Kabal town, Swat district, Pakistan on Sunday.
The blast took place near a police station in Kabal town of Swat district, where hundreds of people had gathered to participate in the Swat Peace Rally, an event organised to demand peace and condemn rising militant violence in the region.
Suicide Bomber Strikes Near Peace Rally
The officials stated that the attacker attempted to enter a police station located near the rally venue. Police personnel stationed at the entrance stopped the suspect before he could enter the premises. The attacker then detonated his explosive vest near the main gate, triggering a powerful explosion that caused heavy casualties.
Seven Dead, Over 20 Injured
The officials also stated that seven people lost their lives including four police officer who were on security duty. More than 20 others sustained injuries and were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of all the victims.
Forensic teams are collecting evidence from the blast site, while security has been tightened across Swat and nearby districts to prevent any further incidents.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant as the investigation continues.
