Eleven districts in Tamil Nadu are on yellow alert for heavy rains on Tuesday, the Regional Meteorological Centre said in its daily bulletin.
The Ghat areas of Coimbatore district, Nilgiris, Theni, Tiruvannamalai, Villuppuram, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Salem, Erode, and Namakkal districts are predicted to get heavy rains today. The state capital Chennai likely to receive light showers.
Tamil Nadu faces a yellow alert for heavy rains on Tuesday across eleven districts like Coimbatore and Nilgiris, with light showers predicted for Chennai and moderate rain with thunderstorms in several other areas. Temperatures will remain near normal for 48 hours.
The weather agency further said, “Moderate rain at isolated places with thunderstorm & lightning with gusty wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places is likely to occur over rest Western Ghat districts, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Tiruchirapalli, Karur, Pudukottai, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai
and Karaikal area.”
Popular weather blogger Pradeep John of The Tamil Nadu Weatherman said that Tuesday could be be one of the best Southwest Monsoon day of the season for Tamil Nadu, if the RMC predictions turn out to be true. He said that the rain is expected across almost all districts.
He added, “Chennai, too, is forecast to receive evening and night showers throughout this week, but today appears to be the most promising of them all. Let’s hope the forecast lives up to the expectations !!! Enjoy the rains. If it misses today in your place and rains nearby, then you will have chance tomorrow.”
The RMC noted that no large change in maximum temperatures over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area in the next 48 hours and the maximum temperatures are likely to be near normal during for the next two days.
Tondi recorded the highest maximum temperature of 38.6°C over Tamil Nadu on Monday while the Coimbatore Airport recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 22.0°C in the plains of Tamil Nadu.
However, Uthagamandalam, popularly known as Ooty, recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 12.2°C in the hill areas of Tamil Nadu
