In Rajahmundry, 28-year-old postgraduate medical student Dr. Priyanka died on Sunday from severe injuries sustained on August 3rd after her scooter was hit by an SUV; Suravarapu Dushyanth and Andrew Joseph Edwards have been arrested.

The victim, Dr Priyanka, had been battling for her life since the accident on August 3. Despite intensive medical treatment, she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.

Accident Took Place Near a Mall

The Police said that the accident occurred near a shopping mall in Rajahmundry. Investigators said two young men, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol, had an argument with the mall’s security personnel before leaving the premises in a Tata Nexon SUV.

Soon after, the vehicle allegedly hit Dr Priyanka’s scooter from behind and ran over her, causing severe head injuries.

Doctors Declared Her Brain Dead

Following the accident, Dr Priyanka was rushed to a hospital in Rajahmundry for emergency treatment.

As her condition remained critical, she was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad, where she was placed on ventilator support.

Doctors later said she had suffered extensive head injuries and was declared brain dead.
Her family confirmed that she passed away on Sunday despite all efforts to save her.

Two Accused Arrested

Police identified the accused as Suravarapu Dushyanth and Andrew Joseph Edwards.
According to investigators, both allegedly fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Using CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts and other evidence, police tracked down and arrested the two accused.

Charges Upgraded During Investigation

Initially, police registered a case under Section 338 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing grievous hurt through a rash or negligent act.

However, after examining the evidence, investigators added Section 308 of the BNS, which relates to attempt to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Family Mourns Loss

Speaking to reporters, Priyanka’s father said the loss was beyond words and described her as the first doctor in their extended family.
He said she had worked hard to achieve her dream of becoming a doctor, making her death even more heartbreaking for the family.
