The elections for 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu were held on 23 April and it witnessed a fierce multi-cornered battle. The ruling DMK mounted an aggressive campaign to retain power, while the principal opposition, AIADMK, fought doggedly to reclaim the helm after half a decade.

Adding fresh unpredictability are two formidable wildcards: actor-politician Vijay’s fledgling TVK, making its electoral debut, and Tamil nationalist Seeman’s NTK, both complicating conventional victory forecasts.

Tamil Nadu held elections across 234 constituencies on April 23rd, contested by DMK, AIADMK, TVK, and NTK. Counting begins 8 AM with three-tier security and a new QR code ID system, with results updated online via ECINET and the official portal.

Tamil Nadu Elections 2026 - Full List of Winners

Counting will commence promptly at 8:00 AM with postal ballots. At 8:30 AM, officials will begin tallying votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) across 234 specially arranged counting halls, supported by an additional 240 halls for postal and electronically transmitted postal ballots on Monday.

In total, 3,324 counting tables will be in use. Over 10,500 counting personnel, assisted by 4,624 micro-observers, have been deployed to ensure transparency, while 1.25 lakh officials and police are on duty.

Stringent Security and New QR Code System

To guarantee the integrity of the process, a comprehensive three-tier security ring has been established. The outer perimeter (100 metres) will be manned by local police, the second tier (entry gates) by State Armed Police, and the innermost layer-covering counting halls and EVM strong rooms-will fall under the exclusive authority of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), supported by 65 additional companies.

For the first time, the Election Commission has introduced a QR code-based Photo Identity Card system via ECINET to prevent unauthorised access. Entry to the third and most sensitive security layer will be granted only after successful QR code verification. The cards are mandatory for all authorised personnel, including Returning Officers, candidates, election agents, and counting staff.
