Delhi commuters are likely to face traffic diversions and congestion in several parts of the national capital on Tuesday, May 19, due to a major summit rehearsal scheduled at Bharat Mandapam.

Delhi Traffic Alert

A summit rehearsal at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam on Tuesday, May 19, from 12 PM to 3 PM will cause traffic diversions and congestion near Pragati Maidan, impacting SP Marg and Mathura Road. Commuters should plan ahead, use alternative routes like Ring Road or the Metro, and anticipate delays.

Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed advisory asking residents to plan their travel in advance and avoid affected routes during peak hours.

Rehearsal Scheduled From 12 PM To 3 PM

According to the advisory shared by Delhi Traffic Police, a summit rehearsal will take place at Bharat Mandapam between 12 noon and 3 pm on Tuesday. The exercise is linked to the upcoming Twin Summits – the International Big Cat Alliance Summit and the India-Africa Forum Summit – scheduled later this month in New Delhi.

Authorities have warned that traffic movement around Pragati Maidan and adjoining roads may remain heavily affected during the rehearsal period.

Roads Likely To Face Restrictions

The advisory states that SP Marg and Mathura Road could witness closures or diversions depending on the traffic situation. Motorists have been advised to avoid these stretches unless absolutely necessary.

Commuters travelling across Delhi have been asked to use Ring Road and Vande Mataram Marg for smoother movement, as both routes are expected to remain operational in both directions.

Alternative Routes Suggested

Delhi Traffic Police recommended several alternate routes for travellers coming from different parts of the city:

North to South Delhi travellers can use Ring Road via Rajghat and Sarai Kale Khan.
West to South commuters are advised to take Ring Road through Dhaula Kuan, Moti Bagh and Bikaji Cama Place.

East to South Delhi travellers can move through Sarai Kale Khan and the Barapullah/Ashram corridor.

Airport Route To Remain Open

The advisory clarified that commuters heading towards Indira Gandhi International Airport can continue using NH-8 and the Gurgaon Road route via Dhaula Kuan, which will remain open.

Entry To Bharat Mandapam

Visitors attending the event at Bharat Mandapam have been instructed to enter only through Gates 4 and 10. Parking arrangements have been made at Bhairon Mandir, while shuttle services will operate from ITPO gates to nearby metro stations and bus stops.

Cab services including Ola, Uber, Rapido and Bharat Taxi are expected to operate near the designated gates.

Metro Travel Recommended

Traffic officials strongly encouraged people to use the Delhi Metro to avoid delays. The Supreme Court Metro Station has been highlighted as the fastest access point to Bharat Mandapam.

Authorities Ask Commuters To Leave Early

Delhi Traffic Police has urged residents to begin their journeys at least 30 minutes earlier than usual due to possible congestion and diversions. Commuters have also been advised to follow real-time updates on navigation apps and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed at key junctions.

A traffic helpline number – 1095 – and additional support contacts have also been shared for public assistance during the rehearsal period.
