As the knockout stage begins, speculation has intensified over a potential meeting between Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal and Lionel Messi’s Argentina. However, the tournament bracket has ruled out any chance of the two football giants facing each other before the final.

The winners from Argentina’s side of the bracket progress to the second semi-final, ensuring they remain separated from Portugal throughout the knockout rounds unless both reach the final.
Only One Match Can Deliver Messi Vs Ronaldo
In simple terms, Portugal must defeat Croatia, win their Round of 16 tie, quarter-final and first semi-final to reach the championship match. Argentina must beat Cape Verde before navigating their own Round of 16, quarter-final and second semi-final.
There is only one exception to this bracket arrangement. If both Portugal and Argentina lose their respective semi-finals, they could meet in the third-place playoff.
