The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is expected to activate the verification and re-evaluation process of Class 12 answer sheets today on its official website.

Students seeking verification of marks or re-evaluation of their answer scripts will be able to submit applications through the official CBSE website once the online facility becomes operational.

CBSE launched Class 12 answer sheet verification and re-evaluation after receiving over 400,000 applications for 1.1 million scanned books by May 26, addressing student concerns about the new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and alleged discrepancies.

The board announced the move following a surge in requests from students seeking access to scanned copies of their evaluated answer books after the declaration of the Class 12 board examination results. According to CBSE, the verification and re-evaluation process is intended to provide students with greater transparency and an opportunity to address concerns related to their marks.

CBSE has also released fresh data regarding applications received for scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets. As per the latest status update issued at 8 pm on 26 May, the board received 4,04,319 applications covering a total of 11,31,961 answer books across multiple subjects.

The board stated that around 8,98,214 scanned answer books have already been digitally shared with students through the official portal and their registered email addresses. CBSE further said that the remaining pending requests are likely to be completed by Thursday.

In its statement, the board reiterated that it is continuing to provide access to evaluated answer scripts through its digital system to ensure transparency during the post-result process and help students review their performance effectively.

The verification and re-evaluation process comes amid widespread concerns raised by students and parents over the implementation of the newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used this year for evaluating Class 12 examination papers.

Over the past few weeks, several students reported technical issues while using the re-evaluation portal. Complaints included payment failures, login errors, delays in downloading scanned answer sheets, and difficulties in completing applications within the stipulated deadlines.

The controversy intensified after some students alleged discrepancies in the answer sheets uploaded under their roll numbers. A student named Vedant claimed on social media that the handwriting in the uploaded Physics answer script did not match his own. Similar complaints later surfaced from other students who also questioned the authenticity of the scanned copies they received.

Responding to the issue, CBSE acknowledged that mismatches had occurred in certain cases and assured students that corrected copies of answer scripts would be shared through their registered email addresses. The board also confirmed that marks and results would be revised wherever necessary after verification.

Apart from concerns over answer-sheet discrepancies, CBSE also faced questions regarding the cybersecurity of the OSM portal. A 19-year-old ethical hacker, Nisarga Adhikary, claimed to have discovered vulnerabilities in parts of the CBSE OnMark system. However, the board later clarified that the website referenced in those claims was only an internal testing platform containing sample data and not the live examination evaluation system.

CBSE is expected to release detailed guidelines for the verification and re-evaluation process once the portal is officially launched.

Students applying for verification have been advised to first compare their answers with the official marking scheme provided for their question paper set. Candidates should clearly identify any instance where marks may not have been awarded despite answers matching the prescribed scheme. The board has also instructed students to submit their objections in a clear and organised manner so that requests can be processed efficiently.
