Confusion has spread across social media over claims that new gas cylinder rules from July 1 will result in LPG connections being cancelled for households that also have a piped natural gas (PNG) connection. The viral messages mention Indane, HP Gas and Bharatgas customers and urge people to surrender their LPG gas cylinder immediately.

However, there is no official nationwide notification stating that LPG gas cylinder connections will be automatically cancelled from July 1 simply because a household also has PNG.

Viral social media claims stating LPG connections will be cancelled from July 1 due to also having PNG are false, as no official nationwide rule mandates this action. Consumers should ignore such messages and only follow official communications from their gas providers.

Gas Cylinder Rules From July 1 Will Your LPG Gas Cylinder Be Cancelled If You Also Have PNG Here s The Truth

Consumers should ignore viral forwards and rely only on official communication from their LPG company, authorised distributor or government authorities before taking any action.

Gas Cylinder Rules: Viral July 1 Claim Explained

Several social media posts claim that households with both an LPG gas cylinder and PNG connection will no longer be allowed to keep both after July 1. Some posts even suggest that refill bookings will stop or existing connections will be blocked.

There is no official announcement introducing any such nationwide gas cylinder rule.

Customers should not surrender their LPG gas cylinder or share personal information based on WhatsApp forwards, Facebook posts or other unverified social media messages.

Check Your LPG Gas Cylinder Details

While the viral claim is false, LPG consumers should ensure their account details are updated to avoid any service-related issues.

Customers should verify that:

Their registered mobile number is active.
KYC details are complete.
Address details are correct.
Consumer information matches company records.

If a distributor has requested document verification, it should be completed only through official channels.

LPG Gas Cylinder And PNG Can Be Used Together

Many households across Indian cities use PNG for everyday cooking while keeping an LPG gas cylinder as a backup during maintenance work, pipeline repairs or temporary supply disruptions.

Not every locality or residential building has access to PNG even in cities covered under a city gas distribution network. This means gas cylinder usage continues to remain important for millions of households.

Consumers should therefore not assume that one viral message applies to everyone.

Gas Cylinder Rules Still Require e-KYC

Among the existing gas cylinder rules that remain important is Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification.

Oil marketing companies have been asking LPG customers to complete e-KYC to verify active consumers and update records.

Anyone who has not completed the process should contact their LPG distributor or use the official website or mobile app of their gas company.

Consumers should never share Aadhaar details, OTPs or biometric information with unknown callers or agents claiming to offer verification.

Domestic And Commercial Gas Cylinder Rules Are Different

Another reason for confusion is that commercial and domestic LPG rules are often mixed together.

Domestic LPG gas cylinders are meant for household cooking while commercial cylinders are supplied to restaurants, hotels and businesses.

Any operational changes affecting commercial gas cylinders do not automatically apply to domestic LPG consumers. Likewise, temporary refill restrictions announced during exceptional situations should not be mistaken for permanent nationwide rules.

What Should LPG Gas Cylinder Customers Do?

There is no need for consumers to panic over social media rumours about new gas cylinder rules from July 1.

Instead, LPG customers should:

Verify any policy change through their LPG company or distributor.
Complete pending e-KYC if required.
Keep consumer records updated.
Ignore unofficial messages asking them to surrender their gas cylinder.
Contact customer care if they face genuine refill or delivery issues.

Until an official notification is issued for a specific connection, consumers do not need to discontinue their LPG gas cylinder simply because they also have a PNG connection.
