Shashank Singh, who represents Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and his father Shailesh Singh have been booked by Bhopal Police after their former cook accused them of assault, verbal abuse and illegal confinement. The case was registered at Ratibad Police Station based on a written complaint filed by the domestic worker, who also alleged that he was physically attacked after deciding to leave the job.

Bhopal Police booked IPL player Shashank Singh and his father Shailesh Singh after their cook accused them of assault, verbal abuse, and illegal confinement, with investigation ongoing.

Cook Claims Job Offer Turned Into Harassment

The complainant, 31-year-old Vipendra Singh Tomar from Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, said he had joined the Singh family’s residence in Mendori village through an acquaintance. According to his complaint, he was offered a monthly salary of ₹15,000 along with free food and accommodation. He also claimed he had been assured assistance in securing a government job in the future.

Tomar alleged that within hours of starting work, he began facing verbal abuse over the quality of the food he prepared. Feeling mentally distressed, he decided to resign and return home, a decision that allegedly angered the family.

Phone Seized, Money Demanded For Meals

According to Tomar, when he informed the family that he wanted to leave, his mobile phone was taken away and he was prevented from leaving immediately.

“Why did you come here? Are you here to murder me? Are you here to steal? I will have you investigated. You will have to work, for at least a month,” Shashank’s father Shailesh Singh allegedly told him.

Tomar further claimed that he was threatened with the words, “I have shot so many people like you.”

He said he continued working for two more days in the hope of recovering his phone. However, when it was not returned, he locked himself inside a room and refused to come out until his phone was handed back.

Alleged Assault After Opening The Door

Tomar alleged that he opened the door only after Shashank Singh arrived, believing the cricketer would help resolve the situation.

“I thought he is their son, he is reasonable, he will help me get out. But as soon as I opened the gate, he abused him and started beating me up badly,” Tomar said.

He further alleged, “They kicked me, beat me up with sticks, shoes, hands, however they could. Shashank Singh, his father Shailesh Singh, their driver, and his sister were involved in beating me.”

The complainant also claimed that the family demanded payment for the food he had consumed during his stay.

“My brother-in-law sent me ₹1,000 which I gave to them…hey did not even pay me one rupee for my work,” he said.

Police Register Case, Medical Report Notes Injuries

Following Tomar’s complaint, Ratibad Police registered a case against Shashank Singh and Shailesh Singh. According to reports, a medical examination conducted by the police found visible injury marks on Tomar’s body, supporting his claim of physical assault.

The matter is currently under police investigation. Authorities are expected to examine the allegations and record statements from all those named in the complaint before taking further action.
