Police said a murder suspect linked to the JP Nagar case was shot in the left leg during a weapons recovery operation on Hemmigepura Road after he allegedly attacked officers with a concealed machete and threw stones while trying to escape. He was taken to Shankar Hospital and is reported to be stable. A new case was filed.

The accused was among four people held in a JP Nagar police station murder case. Police said a man was hacked to death using deadly weapons on the night of June 27. Investigators linked the group to the killing and took one accused for recovery based on information shared during questioning.

Police identified the accused as Mahadev and said the team took Mahadev near NICE road to locate hidden weapons. Police said the weapons were recovered at the spot. After the recovery, police said Mahadev suddenly turned on the team. The accused allegedly began pushing a police officer to create space.

A senior police officer said Mahadev then picked up a concealed machete and attacked. Police said Mahadev also hurled stones at personnel during the attempt to escape. Police said the team responded under self-defence conditions. Sub-Inspector Savinaya warned Mahadev before firing and hit the left leg.

Police injured as murder accused attacked with machete

Police said two head constables, Veeresh and Sangamesh, were hurt in the incident. Police said one of them suffered a bleeding injury to the chest. Officers said the injuries happened during the alleged machete attack and stone-throwing. Police said additional steps were taken to secure the area soon after.

Police said Mahadev was taken to Shankar Hospital for treatment after the firing. Police said Mahadev was undergoing treatment and remained stable. Officers said a separate case was filed against Mahadev for the alleged attack on police personnel during the recovery operation.

Police probe links between murder accused and chain-snatching case

Investigators said Mahadev was a rowdy-sheeter from Kumaraswamy Layout with 14 criminal cases. Police said the cases included murder and attempt-to-murder charges. Police also said the same gang was involved in a chain-snatching case in KR Puram limits that night.

Police said the chain-snatching incident involved the use of pepper spray. Police said around 40 grams of gold jewellery was snatched from a woman. Police said teams were checking the accused’s role in that case. Police said they were also verifying involvement in other robbery cases.
