After Iran announces US-Iran MoU halted, US President Donald Trump has announced that from now US will be playing the role of ‘Guardian of the Hormuz Strait’. He also announced that US will be imposing 20 percent charge on all commercial vessels passing the Strait of Homruz. He described it ‘Iranian blockade’ and with this US has increased its conflict with Iran.

Following Iran’s MoU halt, President Trump declared the US the ‘Guardian of the Hormuz Strait,’ imposing a 20% cargo fee for security, but Iran’s IRGC rejected this, asserting its full authority over the Strait.
Trump Says US Will Be Reimbursed For Protecting Shipping Route
Trump took his social media Truth and announced that Strait of Hormuz will be accessible to at any cost whatever Iran’s stand on it. While he said that US on the behalf of security should be compensated.
He wrote on Truth, “The Hormuz Strait is OPEN, and will remain OPEN, with or without Iran. We are reinstating the THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE… All other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait.”
He further wrote, “The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as ‘THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,’ but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS, will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped, for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security to this very volatile section of the World.”
Earlier also during the interview with Fox & Friends, Trump has said, “We’re going to get paid for guarding it. A lot of money, but we just want to be reimbursed for doing all of this, for putting our people in danger.”
Questions Remain Over Implementation Of Cargo Fee
Although, Trump has announced his plan of 20 percent fees, but it’s not clear how things will be planned accordingly. With this questions also raises that will shipping companies and other nations would allow that fees or not?
Strait of Hormuz is one of the busiest way for maritime and it is the major route for oil and liquid gas exports. Anything happens on that route majorly affects the energy market of multiple nations.
Iran Rejects US Declaration Over Strait Of Hormuz
However, Iran has immediately rejected and responded towards Trump’s announcement and denies the claim of US becoming ‘Guardian of the Hormuz Strait”. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that Iran control the whole authority to Strait of Hormuz.
IRCG spokesperson said, “We continue to assert our authority and control over the Strait of Hormuz with strength and power, and we will force foreign powers and their allies to surrender to the will of the Iranian people.”
Now Trump’s announcement and Iran’s rejection to it will only fuel the conflict to broader aspect and it will also affect the energy prices to other nations as well.
