The protestors at Jantar Mantar are getting a never-heard kind of support as people across the country are ordering food online through Zomato and Swiggy.
People are reportedly ordering food including pizzas, burgers and thalis without names and other details by just mentioning Jantar Mantar as the address even as the Cockroach Janta Party backed protest continue to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Nationwide support for Jantar Mantar protestors includes large food orders via Zomato/Swiggy, with people directing pizzas, burgers, and thalis to the site, overwhelming delivery partners and organizers.
The videos doing rounds on social media show piles of food packets at the protest site at the intersection of Tolstoy Marg and Sansad Marg and delivery partners being spotted at the Jantar Mantar in the national capital. The orders kept coming every few minuts throughout the day, multiple reports have confirmed.
According to the CJP, the food stocks were so much that it appealed public not to order for the day at last night 10 pm. Sharing a video on its social media page, it said, “India is such a beautiful country with such beautiful people – thanks for sending food for protesters. We are so overwhelmed.
BUT for today, we have received more than enough food – please don’t send any more!”
Speaking to English daily The Hindu, a delivery partner said, “Since morning, I have done 20 rounds here to deliver pizzas. Out of that, four orders were from the U.S. Other delivery agents from our restaurant are also coming here,” He stated that a single order of 80 pizzas were delivered at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday.
He said, “Even our manager came to deliver here today, because there were too many orders and we could not manage it,”
A few orders asked the delivery partners to share the pictures and videos as proof.
A person, who ordered food, told the English daily over phone that he had written NEET exams a few years ago and question papers had leaked back then as well. He has identified himself as a person from Bihar who is now in Bengaluru/.
“I had also written NEET in the past and then also the question paper got leaked. I later gave it up and took up nursing. I can’t come there now, but I wanted to show support to the students protesting and that is why I ordered pizzas,” he added.
Another deliver partner named Govind revealed that he made delivered 18 trips at the time of speaking to the English publication.
“The orders ranged from 10 cups of chai to 34 burgers to 200 samosas. I send photos to some people of the food being distributed,” he stated. The delivery partner claimed that he received just Rs 20 for a particular order to deliver food inside Jantar Mantar but he did it as he felt “happy to distribute food inside for the students.”
This order first caught people’s attention after delivery executive with a raincoat and helmet spoke in a video that the order had come from Mumbai.
“Anuj naam ka bhaiya hai Mumbai, Maharashtra se. Inka naam Anuj Rawat hai. Inhone bola hai ki khaana jo koi Jantar Mantar pe bhookha vyakti hai usse aap le jaa ke de sakte ho. Vo online pay kar diya paisa (A man named Anuj Rawat from Mumbai, Maharashtra, placed this order. He asked me to give the food to anyone at Jantar Mantar who is hungry. He has already paid for it online),” he said in the clip.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, a person ordered 25 thalis. The delivery partner said, “Someone named Anil Yadav ordered 25 veg thalis and told me to drop it off near the protest venue. They just wanted to help the students. This is my second order delivery here.”
