Iran has rejected any other route proposed to shipping through strait of Hormuz, and has said that the negotiations in future will only take place when US will forward with Iran’s control over the Homruz is accepted first. This has come at the time when Oman is tried to mediate between US and Iran, and US has stopped military action for the hope of new talks.
Iran rejects alternative shipping routes via the Strait of Hormuz, demanding its control over the vital waterway and the release of frozen assets as preconditions for negotiations, amid ongoing Omani mediation with the US.
Iran Lists Three Demands for Talks
According to Al Arabiya, Iran has issued three conditions before starting any negotiations. First, the status of Strait of Hormuz will come only under Iran’s control. Second, Iran wants their frozen to be released as soon as possible. Only after these issues are resolved then Iran will start the talks for nuclear programme.
The report also mentioned that Iran has already informed Pakistan that it is ready to talks in Geneva, Doha or Islamabad.
Oman Mediation Continues
The talks for opening Strait of Hormuz reopening with Oman and Iran has already been started. An Iranian official has said Omani representatives who came for the talks have already left Tehran after two days of talks. However, regional officers said that it will be needed more negotiations before the agreement reaches final stage.
Iran Reaffirms Control Over Strait
The strait of Hormuz is one of the most important shipping route in the world and interruption on this route causes big setback to global energy market.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on X, “Day 149 of the war. Iran continues to hold full control over the Strait of Hormuz – without Iran’s permission, not even a bird can cross. Today, one ship tried to pass through an alternate route. It got hit.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also accused Iran for violating memorandum of understanding on the Strait of Hormuz, also alleged that US forces have encouraged ships to use alternate routes outside Iran’s designated safe corner.
