Texas TikTok influencer Alondra Sierra, 26, died July 17 from stage 4 melanoma after discovering it at age 19. She used her platform to educate thousands about skin cancer risks and urged people to monitor any changes in their skin for early detection.
A Small Freckle Became a Life-Changing Diagnosis
Alondra Sierra was just 19 years old when she noticed that there was a freckle appearing on her forehead, with the time it changed into a darker one from lighter colour. But even in her imagination she thought it will be a melanoma. She even said that she never thought of possible skin cancer in her mind.
Later after three years, the doctors diagnosed her with melanoma. By the time it was detected, the disease was already at its advance stage. Despite multiple treatment with surgeries, immunotherapy, radiation and other treatments, the cancer continued to spread.

In 2024, Sierra also revealed that melanoma had spread to her skull, spine, pelvis, ribs, back and stomach. She also shared that immunotherapy also failed to stop the disease. In June, her family confirmed that she started radiation therapy after the cancer started to spread to her brain.
Used Social Media to Warn Others About Melanoma
Sierra used to share her videos regularly to educate others about skin cancer from last four years. She also suggested UV protection and the importance of skin care routine. She also asked the audience to avoid excessive sun exposure and artificial UV sources during promotions of early screening.

While spreading awareness about Melanoma in the Melanoma Awareness Month in May, she shared her journey, “I wish this month meant celebration. But instead it means survival. And unfortunately, that is my reality right now. May 1st, the start of melanoma awareness month. For many, it’s just another month. For me, it is prevention, it is advocacy. It is life, it is survival.”
She also suggested people to not ignore even a simple skin changes. “That mole, that freckle, that one spot that changes colour, shape, or size. You notice it, but you delay checking it. From your scalp to behind your ears to your back, your breasts, your feet, your genitals – every inch matters,” she said.
