Trainee IPS officer M Uday Krishna Reddy was arrested in Hyderabad and remanded to 14-day judicial custody on charges including sexual assault and harassment of a fellow trainee at the SVPNPA police academy.

The accused, M Uday Krishna Reddy (33), from Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district, was taken into custody on Wednesday after police found evidence linking him to the offences mentioned in the complaint. He had been booked on July 18 on charges including sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, criminal intimidation and violations under the Information Technology Act.

According to Hyderabad Police, Reddy previously served as a police constable before clearing the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2025. He joined the IPS and had been undergoing training at the academy since December 2025.

Investigators said the accused and the complainant became acquainted through social media in mid-2025 after she responded to a post about his journey to the Indian Police Service. Their conversations eventually developed into a relationship.

Police alleged that the relationship later became troubled, with the accused displaying possessive and controlling behaviour. He allegedly threatened to end his life, showed weapons, insulted the woman, demanded “multiple relationships”, damaged her laptop and continued to harass her through fake social media accounts after she blocked him.

Officials further alleged that he threatened to leak private chats and contacted her family members and colleagues without her consent. Police said the woman ended the relationship and later married someone else, following which the alleged harassment continued.

Based on witness statements and other evidence collected during the investigation, a special police team arrested the trainee officer near Aramghar X Roads on the night of July 28. He was produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.

The investigation is continuing under the supervision of the Hyderabad Police’s Women Safety Wing to establish all the facts surrounding the case.

Following the registration of the FIR, Reddy had described the allegations and rumours against him as “baseless” in a social media post. He also moved the Telangana High Court seeking to quash the FIR. The High Court on Wednesday adjourned the matter for hearing after four weeks.
