The Rajya Sabha was flooded with noise on Thursday after opposition political parties insisted that the Home Minister of India should answer to the House regarding the action taken by the police against the protesting students due to the NEET paper leakage issue.

Opposition members disrupted Rajya Sabha proceedings, demanding Home Minister Amit Shah respond to alleged police brutality against NEET paper leak protesters. MPs cited the use of pellet guns, and Rahul Gandhi questioned Shah’s absence from the house.

It is to be noted that the protesting took place during the time when the upper house was debating about the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 that had been passed by the lower house the previous day.

Opposition Raises Slogans in Rajya Sabha

Within minutes after the start of the proceedings and tabling of official documents, members of the opposition got up to shout slogans calling upon the government for an explanation for the police brutality against NEET protesters.

Various Members of Parliament (MPs) called out “Home Minister Sadan Mein Aao,” demanding that Mr. Amit Shah should himself explain the government’s excessiveness in the use of force on the students protesting against the NEET examination on July 20.

Opposition members comprising Congress and others left the House, blaming the government of avoiding responsibility for the issue.

It was stated by the opposition members that the government had resorted to brutal force, including pellet guns, to disperse the students.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also criticised the government over the issue through a post on X.

Why is Amit Shah so scared of coming to Parliament and explaining the brutal violence against students?

It reeks of guilt.

— Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) July 30, 2026

Questioning the Home Minister’s absence from the debate, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Why is Amit Shah so scared of coming to Parliament and explaining the brutal violence against students? It reeks of guilt.”
