Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay, has opened up about his equation with his father, his younger sister Divya Saasha and the pressure of carrying forward his family’s legacy.
Speaking to Divyadarshini in an interview, Jason said his father has always encouraged him to create an identity of his own rather than be defined by his father’s popularity.
Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil Nadu CM Vijay, shared his father’s advice to build his own identity, acknowledging the family legacy’s responsibility. He also discussed his close relationship with sister Divya Saasha and his directorial debut film, Sigma.

“He wanted me to build my own identity and build my own name,” Jason said, adding that this was also what he wanted for himself.
Jason Sanjay On Vijay’s Advice
Jason said his father’s advice helped him stay on the path he had chosen for himself. Rather than pushing him in a particular direction, Vijay encouraged him to take the initiative, gain experience and approach him whenever he needed guidance.
Jason said he was grateful to Vijay, his mother and the rest of his family for their support.
However, he also acknowledged the responsibility that comes with being part of Vijay’s family.
“Everyone related to my family has an extra level of responsibility and legacy that we need to carry forward and safeguard,” he said.
Jason added that he is aware of the expectations surrounding him but is keen to establish himself through his own work.
‘We Have Become More Close’: Jason On Sister Divya Saasha
Jason also spoke warmly about his relationship with his younger sister Divya Saasha.
Describing their bond as extremely close, Jason said they became even closer after they stopped living under the same roof.
“Ever since we have not lived in the same house, we have become more close,” he said.
According to Jason, the siblings keep each other updated about their lives. He also revealed that Divya Saasha is a cinema enthusiast and gives him honest feedback on his work.
“She’s also a cinema buff. She’s very transparent with her feedback,” Jason said.
He added that, as her elder brother, he feels responsible for taking care of her, guiding her and protecting her.
Jason Sanjay On Being Vijay’s Son
The filmmaker also spoke about how he views the reactions and comments surrounding him and his family.
Jason said he pays attention to both positive and negative feedback, noting that different people comment for different reasons. While some genuinely want to encourage him, others form opinions about him without actually knowing him.
Jason said he believes people would understand him better if they got an opportunity to interact with him personally.
At the same time, he expressed gratitude for the immense love he has received from Vijay’s fans and others.
“There’s a lot of love, humongous love. There’s a lot of legacy and a lot of responsibility on me,” he said.
Jason Sanjay Talks About ‘Sigma’ Promo Song
During the interaction, Jason also spoke about his appearance in the promotional material for his upcoming directorial venture Sigma.
He clarified that the dance sequence was created as part of the film’s promotional material and was planned separately from the song.
Jason recalled the experience of working on the choreography and said the team made him comfortable during the rehearsals and shoot.
The filmmaker has been working on Sigma as his directorial debut and is looking to establish himself behind the camera.
Jason’s Favourite Films And Filmmakers
Jason also revealed some of the films and filmmakers he admires.
He said he would love to travel back in time and watch how some iconic scenes were conceived and filmed. He particularly recalled being fascinated by the way one scene was handled, including its dialogues and impact.
Jason also spoke about his admiration for veteran filmmakers K Balachander and Mahendran.
He named Johnny as one film he would like to revisit, praising its visual storytelling and describing its filmmaker as one of the pioneers of his time.
Jason Sanjay’s Focus Remains On Filmmaking
Despite being Vijay’s son, Jason has repeatedly indicated that he wants to establish his own identity in the film industry.
He has pursued filmmaking rather than following his father’s path into acting and has been developing his skills behind the camera.
