The Central Sanskrit University (CSU), Delhi, has entered into an academic collaboration with Silpakorn University, Thailand, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Sanskrit studies in Southeast Asia. As part of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), an overseas Centre for Sanskrit Studies of the Central Sanskrit University will be established at Silpakorn University. On this occasion, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of CSU, Prof. Srinivasa Varakhedi, expressed his confidence that this collaboration would substantially promote Sanskrit, Pali and the broader Indian Knowledge Systems throughout the Southeast Asian region.
Prof Ajay Kumar Mishra ,the Member of Academic Council, Central Sanskrit University earnestly remarks ,this initiative represents an important step towards reinforcing the international academic presence of Sanskrit through institutional collaboration.It reflects the growing engagement of Central Sanskrit University with global centres of higher learning and demonstrates its commitment to expanding Sanskrit education, research and cultural exchange beyond India’s borders. Such collaborations are expected to strengthen CSU’s international academic profile while fostering meaningful scholarly partnerships.
Central Sanskrit University Delhi signed an MoU with Silpakorn University, Thailand, establishing an overseas Centre for Sanskrit Studies to promote Sanskrit, Pali, and Indian Knowledge Systems in Southeast Asia.
The agreement is also in harmony with the vision of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which recognises the importance of classical languages and India’s knowledge traditions. Alongside Sanskrit, it highlights the academic relevance of Pali and encourages interdisciplinary research rooted in the Indian Knowledge Systems. Furthermore, this partnership offers opportunities to reconnect with the global Indian diaspora and scholars interested in Indic civilisation through Sanskrit studies. As India’s premier institution dedicated to Sanskrit education and research, Central Sanskrit University is well positioned to serve as a nodal institution for promoting international academic cooperation in this field.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Srinivasa Varakhedi,the President of Silpakorn University, Prof. Thanaset Dawhirunpat , Padma Shri Prof. Chirapat Prapandvidya, Prof. Madhukeshwar Bhatt , Prof. Rajiv Lochan and several distinguished academicians and dignitaries. Mr. Puneet Agrawal, Ambassador of India to Thailand, also graced the occasion, underscoring the significance of this academic partnership in enhancing educational and cultural ties between India and Thailand.
