There have been at least 40 casualties, with roughly 10 of them being critically injured, after a private Volvo bus was involved in an accident where it struck a truck and fell from a bridge on the NH-44 highway linking Hyderabad to Bengaluru in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh state.

A private Volvo bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru fell from a bridge after colliding with a truck on NH-44 near Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, causing at least 40 injuries, 10 critical.
The accident occurred in the vicinity of Pogururu village in Pamidi mandal.
Bus Collides With Truck, Falls Off Bridge
As per police reports, the accident took place at around 4 am when the bus from Hyderabad to Bengaluru was passing through the Pogururu bridge.

The authorities said that the bus collided with an Eicher truck and due to the sheer force of the collision, both vehicles fell from the bridge.
As a result, the bus suffered heavy damages, leaving many passengers trapped inside.
Rescue Operation Lasted Several Hours
Police and rescue teams rushed to the accident site and launched an operation to rescue the passengers. Authorities used an excavator to remove parts of the damaged bus and reach those trapped inside.
The bus driver, who was among the seriously injured, was rescued after a prolonged operation.
Officials said all trapped passengers were eventually pulled out of the wreckage.
Around 10 Passengers Critical
Police said nearly 40 passengers sustained injuries in the accident.
The injured were first taken to the Pamidi Government Hospital for emergency treatment.
Those with serious injuries, including around 10 critically injured passengers, were later shifted to the Government Hospital in Anantapur for advanced medical care.
Doctors are closely monitoring their condition.
Traffic Restored After Wreckage Cleared
The accident disrupted traffic on the busy NH-44, one of the country’s major highways connecting Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Police cleared the damaged vehicles from the road and regulated traffic to restore normal movement.
Authorities also inspected the accident site as part of the investigation.
