Many schools in western Uttar Pradesh are operating temporary closures due to ongoing Kanwar Yatra in the region. Many restrictions have been introduced as many Kanwariyas are travelling through the region, which is forcing into huge traffic diversions, road restrictions and high security arrangements before Sawan Shivratri on 11 August.
Schools in western Uttar Pradesh districts like Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Muzaffarnagar are closed until August 12 due to the Kanwar Yatra traffic and security measures, with Noida also impacted on August 11.
UP Schools Closed Till August 12
Some district administration have already announced school closures in the areas which will be affected due to traffic and public movement. This order covers schools that are affiliated with the different boards like CBSE, ICSE, UP Board and other recognised education boards.
The district-wise status is as follows:
- Ghaziabad: Schools are closed from August 4 to August 12.
- Meerut: Schools and colleges have been ordered to remain closed till August 12.
- Muzaffarnagar: Schools are closed till August 12 amid Kanwar Yatra.
- Baghpat: Schools have also been affected by closure arrangements announced during the Kanwar Yatra period.
- Noida: Schools will be closed on 11 August due to Kanwar Yatra.
However, the opening of schools will be depend on the next advisory comes from district administrations.
Why Are Schools Closed During Kanwar Yatra?
Every year Kanwar Yatra see large numbers of devotees travelling through western Uttar Pradesh after collecting holy Ganga water from Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The ritual turns into a heavier movement as Sawan Shivratri comes.
While many major roads have been diverted or restricted to manage Kanwariya crowds, authorities have opted for temporary school closures in some districts. The move is designed to reduce student movement on busy roads and also minimise the risk of disruption during pilgrimage.
Online Classes In Ghaziabad
The closure of schools has forced many private schools in Ghaziabad to shift their classes online. This will allow students to continue their courses while avoid travelling to schools through affected routes and roads.
For Students in the affected districts now should open for the reopening of schools on 12 August. However, every district has their own different timing of opening the schools so the parents and the students should check the advisory given by district administration.
