Aeshwarya Raj Singh received a warm welcome from Rashtriya Lok Dal workers on Thursday on his first visit to Lucknow following his appointment as the party’s new Uttar Pradesh chief after Ramashish Rai resigned earlier this month.
His welcome began at Charbagh railway station and continued at several locations before Singh reached the party headquarters. Addressing workers, Singh said his new responsibility was an opportunity to work for farmers, youth, women and other sections of society.
He announced that the party would specifically seek to increase the participation of young people and women, besides bringing students and farmers into a more active organisational role. The RLD is banking on young leadership and grassroots mobilisation to strengthen itself in Uttar Pradesh.
Singh’s appointment is an attempt to give the party a younger organisational face while retaining its traditional focus on farmers and rural communities. He said the organisation would be taken to villages and booth-level units and the party’s ideology would be taken to a wider section of society.
Singh said his family has had a long association with the party. His late father Raja Laxmeshwar Singh was a Lok Dal MLA and worked with former RLD leader Ajit Singh on issues concerning farmers and the party’s ideology.
The new state chief said he would seek to carry forward that legacy. Party’s state working president Anupam Mishra described Singh’s elevation as a decision reflecting the party’s confidence in young leadership. He said the new leadership would work to make the organisation more active and strengthen it across every district, assembly constituency and booth.
RLD national general secretary Anil Dubey said the appointment would provide fresh momentum to the organisation and called upon senior leaders and workers to work collectively under Singh’s leadership.
