Rapido has received a five-year licence from the Karnataka Transport Department for its cab services under the 2016 rules, valid until August 2031, reinforcing its role in the state’s mobility ecosystem.

Karnataka is Rapido’s home state and one of its most important mobility markets. Over the years, Rapido has built a deep presence across 21 cities in the state, supporting over 3.14 lakh captains and serving more than 2.04 crore registered customers. More than 69 lakh customers in Karnataka have taken cab rides through the platform with Rapido.

The licence provides greater confidence and continuity to the large base of captains and commuters who rely on Rapido for everyday mobility. It also strengthens Rapido’s ability to support Karnataka’s evolving urban transport ecosystem through safe, reliable and compliant cab services.

The development marks an important step in Rapido’s continued commitment to Karnataka and reinforces the company’s role as a long-term mobility partner in supporting the state’s vision for safer, more accessible, reliable and technology-led urban transport.

Karnataka has been at the forefront of India’s urban mobility transformation, with growing focus on multimodal transport, first- and last-mile connectivity, commuter convenience and technology-enabled mobility systems. Rapido’s licence for cab services will support this larger mobility ecosystem by enabling compliant, safe and reliable operations under the state’s regulatory framework.

Rapido has also been made part of the Urban Mobility Mission announced by the Government of Karnataka, further strengthening its partnership with the state in shaping future-ready mobility solutions. Through this engagement, Rapido will work towards supporting the state’s broader mobility priorities, including improved commuter access, seamless urban travel, technology integration, safety, service reliability and earning opportunities for captains.

Speaking on the development, Pavan Guntupalli, Co-founder, Rapido, said, “Karnataka is our home state and one of our most important markets. Over the years, Rapido has become a trusted mobility platform for millions of customers in the state, while creating earning opportunities for lakhs of captains. We welcome the grant of the licence under the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016, for cab services. This development gives us the opportunity to strengthen our cab offering within a formal regulatory framework, while continuing to work closely with the Government of Karnataka and the Transport Department to support safe, reliable and accessible mobility for commuters.”

He added, “Rapido’s ambition is to be a long-term mobility partner for Karnataka as the state builds the next generation of urban transport. Clear and predictable regulation benefits the entire mobility ecosystem, commuters, captains, platforms and the government. Our priority is to operate in full compliance with the state framework, while continuing to strengthen safety, service reliability and meaningful earning opportunities for captains.”

Rapido’s presence in Karnataka spans key urban and emerging mobility centres, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, Davangere, Shivamogga, Ballari, Kalaburagi, Tumakuru and other cities. The company’s growing footprint reflects the increasing need for accessible, app-based mobility options across both large metropolitan centres and smaller urban markets.
