Under the Punjab Government’s anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” (War Against Drugs), Fazilka Police has carried out a major crackdown on drug trafficking over the past eight months. A total of 1,331 accused persons have been arrested in 924 cases registered under the NDPS Act.
During the operation, police recovered more than 41 kg of heroin, along with opium, charas, and thousands of intoxicating capsules and tablets. Authorities also seized 38 vehicles allegedly used for drug trafficking.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that along with strict action against drug smugglers, the campaign is also focusing on rehabilitation and de-addiction. Hundreds of people have been linked to de-addiction centres and treatment programmes.
Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gagan Ajit Singh said the police have also intensified action against associates of gangsters. Several cases have been registered under the Arms Act, leading to the recovery of weapons, ammunition and drones. He added that CCTV surveillance, digital forensic tools and modern technology have helped police improve crime detection and investigations.
Apart from enforcement, the police have organised awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes to educate people about the dangers of drug abuse. Officials said the anti-drug drive will continue with the aim of making society safer and drug-free.
