Classical dance became a soulful tribute to the nation on Friday evening at the India Habitat Centre, where Padma Shri awardee and Bharatanatyam exponent Prathibha Prahlad, along with her Prasiddha Dance Repertory, presented Rashtra Yajna.
Commemorating 150 years of Vande Mataram, the production featured artists, all under the age of 30, who brought fresh energy and finesse to the traditional art form.
Former Union Minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and praised the young ensemble: “In my view, today’s event was truly magnificent. Prathibha ji’s deep expertise beautifully highlighted the culture of the entire country, bringing her immense talent to life.”
Reflecting on the event, Prahlad shared, “I felt deeply moved and happy to see how warmly Rashtra Yajna was received. Witnessing such a distinguished gathering of eminent individuals—people who understand and live the spirit of Sanatana Dharma—was profoundly meaningful to me. What made the response especially fulfilling was the audience’s recognition of the vision behind my choreography: an attempt to represent the country through the National Flag, evoke our thousands-of-years-old civilisational consciousness, and channel that timeless spirit into our National Song. Rashtra Yajna was an offering to the idea of Bharat—a blend of ancient memory, shared cultural bonds, and contemporary expression. To have that vision embraced by so many was an immensely joyful experience.”
Highlighting the youthfulness of the group, K. Nandini Singla, Director General of ICCR, added, “All these artists are under the age of 30! This is the true hope for Bharat and our nation’s future. Seeing young people so deeply passionate about Indian culture fills me with immense pride.”
Prof. (Dr.) K. G. Suresh, Director of IHC, noted, “Even today, Vande Mataram gives us goosebumps and awakens a profound sense of patriotism. While it is a staple of official protocol, Pratibhaji’s collaborative tribute brings a fresh, creative dimension to its legacy. Bringing together these vibrant young artists to commemorate our national song makes this an unforgettable offering.”
The evening was attended by several dignitaries, including Diana Alipova, spouse of the Russian Ambassador to India, following the troupe’s recent acclaimed performance at the 1st International Arts Festival for Youth in Russia.
