Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has told officials to repair the roads that got damaged by the heavy and the fresh floods without taking much more time. He asked this in the review meeting of Public Works Department (PWD) on Friday, 11 September. He directed that the damaged roads should be made for usable without any delay. He also directed that the permanent roads can be take-up only after the rainy season ends.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath directed officials to quickly repair flood-damaged roads, prioritizing 681 routes for the festival season and setting a 50,000 km pothole repair target, with permanent renewal work to follow the monsoon.
681 Roads Identified Before Festival Season
The CM said the conditions of roads should be check with regular intervals because the rainfall is still going on in many areas. He also asked officials to check the roads have suffered any damages.
The government has identified 681 important roads that need priority attention before the upcoming festival season. These include routes expected to see heavy traffic during Ganesh Chaturthi, Vishwakarma Puja, Navratri, Diwali, Chhath Puja and Kartik Purnima.
The chief minister said people should not face trouble while travelling on major roads during the festivals. He asked officials to complete necessary repair and renewal work before the rush begins.
50,000 Km Road Repair Target
Officials told the meeting that roads have been damaged not only by heavy rain and flooding but also by the movement of heavy vehicles near ongoing expressway, national highway and railway projects.
The government is running a pothole removal campaign covering roads managed by nine departments. These departments together look after around 4.36 lakh kilometres of roads.
The current target is to make around 50,000 kilometres of roads pothole-free. Work has already been completed on about 5,751 kilometres.
The state has also set targets for renewing around 30,000 kilometres of roads and carrying out special repairs on another 5,000 kilometres. Around 14,000 kilometres of renewal work and 700 kilometres of special repairs have been completed so far.
Schools, Hospitals and Markets to Get Priority
Yogi directed officials to focus first on roads near schools, hospitals, major markets, government offices and other places with heavy public movement.
He said pothole repairs should not be limited to temporary patchwork. Roads that are currently in poor condition should first be made safe and usable. Permanent renewal should be carried out after the rains where needed.
The chief minister also said that repair work must be completed quickly without compromising on quality. Different state departments were asked to coordinate their work so that road repairs can be completed without unnecessary delays.
