Tamil Nadu CM and TVK chief Vijay on the first anniversary of Karur stampede tragedy remembered 41 people who died. While remembering the victims on first anniversary”a wound that does not heal” and “a pain that does not fade”.
CM Vijay commemorated the first anniversary of the 27 Sep 2025 Karur stampede, where 41 died during a TVK rally; the event led to a Supreme Court-ordered CBI investigation and financial aid for victims’ families.
Vijay Remembers Karur Tragedy
The Karur Stampede tragedy took place on 27 September 2025, at Velusamypuram in Karur during a TVK rally. Vijay remembered the victims and expressed his grief for their families and other connected with the party.
“Greetings to all who reside in my heart,” Vijay began his post on X.
“Last year. This same day. That is, September 27, 2025.”
Describing the tragedy, he said it would remain in the memories of people in Karur and across Tamil Nadu.
“A day in my lifetime, in the lives of our Karur relatives, in the hearts of our Tamil Nadu kin – a wound that does not heal, a pain that does not fade, a sorrowful event that took place,” he said.

41 People Died In Crowd Crush
Around thousands of Vijay fans and TVK supporters gathered at the venue from morning to see Vijay. Even families, including children were their at the event.
Vijay although arrived in the evening, after that the crowd moved towards the campaign vehicle. The gathering became so out of control that people fell and became trapped.
Police personnel and some public tried to rescue who got caught in the crush and took injured to hospitals. The incident left 41 people dead and more than 100 injured.
Supreme Court Ordered CBI Probe
The tragedy also led to questions over crowd management, the venue and safety arrangements. The Supreme Court later directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the incident and appointed a committee to oversee the probe.
The Tamil Nadu government and TVK had also announced financial assistance for families who lost loved ones.
Vijay Met Victims’ Families
Vijay visited Karur again on July 10, 2026. During the visit, he met families of the victims and handed over government job appointment orders to some relatives.
He also announced plans to build a memorial in Karur for those who died.
On the first anniversary, Vijay said those mourning the victims would continue to support one another.
“To us, grieving the loss of the relations we carried in our hearts, we ourselves will be comfort, support, and refuge,” he said.
He ended his message by paying tribute to the victims, saying, “Our heartfelt tribute to all the relations who live on in memory.”
