One of the top candidates who emerged from the 2025 Delhi Assembly election is Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), after winning against former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal from the constituency of New Delhi.
In the 2025 Delhi Assembly election, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma defeated incumbent Arvind Kejriwal of AAP for the New Delhi constituency by 4,089 votes, marking Verma’s return to the Assembly after serving as West Delhi MP.
Verma polled 30,088 votes whereas Kejriwal won 25,999 votes which means that there was a difference of 4,089 votes in favor of Verma. Third was the Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit with 4,568 votes.
This outcome was noteworthy because Kejriwal had been a member of the New Delhi constituency for three terms before 2025 but Verma’s political career began long ago; specifically, he won his first election in 2013.

Who is Parvesh Verma?
Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma was born on November 7, 1977, in Delhi. He is the son of former Delhi Chief Minister and BJP leader Sahib Singh Verma and Sahib Kaur.
According to his official Parliament profile, Verma completed his B.Com from Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi, and later earned an MBA in International Business from FORE School of Management in Delhi. He is married to Swati Singh and has one son and two daughters.
Before entering electoral politics, Verma was associated with business and social work. His political background, however, was closely linked to his father, who was a prominent BJP leader in Delhi.

Entry Into Electoral Politics
It was in the 2013 Delhi Assembly election that Verma’s political career got off to its first big start. BJP nominated him in the Mehrauli seat in which he beat AAP’s Narinder Singh.
Verma’s political career saw another significant moment when he contested for the Lok Sabha seat in 2014 as part of the BJP. In this election, he won the seat by more than 2.68 lakh votes.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he retained his seat by winning against the Congress’s Mahabal Mishra. Verma was successful in this election with more than 8.65 lakh votes, as shown in his election records.
Verma has been involved in some committees in Parliament. As recorded by PRS India, Verma has been a member of the Standing Committee on Labour of the 17th Lok Sabha. His attendance record in the 17th Lok Sabha is of 95 per cent. He put forth 269 questions and 12 private member’s bill in the same period.
From West Delhi MP To New Delhi Challenger
Verma’s political career changed direction when he was chosen by the BJP to contest the 2025 Delhi Assembly election from New Delhi.
The contest attracted considerable attention because his main opponent was Arvind Kejriwal, who had represented the constituency since 2013.
The Election Commission’s results showed Verma polling 30,088 votes against Kejriwal’s 25,999. The BJP leader won by 4,089 votes.
His victory brought him back to the Delhi Assembly after more than a decade and placed him at the centre of Delhi politics.
The Sahib Singh Verma Connection
Parvesh Verma comes from a family with a long association with Delhi politics.
His father, Sahib Singh Verma, was a senior BJP leader and served as Delhi Chief Minister from 1996 to 1998. He later served as a Member of Parliament and was also a Union minister.

Sahib Singh Verma’s political career made the Verma family a recognised name within Delhi’s BJP organisation, and Parvesh later built his own electoral career through Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
His Uncle Azad Singh’s Political Career
Parvesh Verma’s extended family has also been involved in Delhi politics.
His uncle Azad Singh was associated with the BJP and served as the mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. He also contested the Delhi Assembly election from Mundka on a BJP ticket.
However, unlike Parvesh Verma, Azad Singh did not win a Delhi Assembly election.
Marriage And Family
Parvesh Verma is married to Swati Singh, according to his official Parliament profile. The couple has three children – one son and two daughters.
Swati Singh is the daughter of former Union minister and BJP leader Vikram Verma. She has also been associated with social work.
The family has therefore had political connections on both sides, with Parvesh Verma’s father being a former Delhi Chief Minister and his wife’s father having served as a Union minister.
A Political Career Built Across Three Elections
Parvesh Verma’s political journey has moved through three important stages: his entry into the Delhi Assembly in 2013, his two terms as the West Delhi Lok Sabha MP in 2014 and 2019, and his return to the Delhi Assembly in 2025.
His victory over Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency became the most closely watched result of the 2025 Delhi election and marked a new phase in Verma’s political career.
Latest Controversy: Parvesh Verma In Slap Row
Parvesh Verma is back in the spotlight after a video from September 27, 2026, showed the Delhi PWD Minister appearing to slap a young man during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar, West Delhi.
The incident took place when Verma was inspecting a newly laid road in the area. AAP MLA Jarnail Singh, who was also present, questioned the quality of the road and pulled out portions of its surface during the inspection. A young man identified as Saheb, who said he handles social media work for the MLA, was recording the proceedings on his mobile phone. A video shared by AAP leaders shows Verma moving towards the young man, pulling down his mobile phone and appearing to slap him. A security guard then intervenes as the situation becomes tense. The video quickly circulated on social media, triggering a political controversy in Delhi.
What Did Parvesh Verma Say?
Verma has disputed the version being circulated by AAP leaders. He said the video did not show the complete context of the incident.
According to Verma, the road inspection had become confrontational and people accompanying Jarnail Singh allegedly abused his family. He also accused the AAP MLA of interfering in road-development work and made an allegation that the MLA had sought a commission from contractors. These are allegations made by Verma and have not been established as facts.
The minister later acknowledged that the incident had taken place, while arguing that the circumstances leading up to it were being presented selectively.
Young Man Files Complaint
The young man involved in the incident, identified as Saheb Singh in reports, said he was at the site after the PWD department called people to inspect the condition of the road.
He alleged that he was recording the inspection when Verma raised his hand against him.
He also alleged that people accompanying the minister threatened him. Delhi Police has received a complaint at Vikaspuri Police Station and was reported to be verifying the allegations.
The incident has now added a fresh controversy to Verma’s political career, which already spans more than a decade in Delhi politics. His journey from a BJP candidate in the 2013 Assembly election to two-time West Delhi MP and later MLA from New Delhi has made him one of the prominent BJP leaders in the capital.
The latest road-inspection controversy, however, has shifted attention from his political career to questions surrounding the conduct of an elected minister and the events that led to the confrontation.
