According to a statement issued by the police, eight people had drowned at the beach in Raigad district of Maharashtra. These individuals had been part of a group, which had visited the beach for picnicking from Alandi, Pune.

Eight individuals drowned at Diveagar Beach in Raigad, Maharashtra, while on a picnic from Alandi, Pune. The victims were part of a 48-member group from a private coaching class; police are investigating the incident after recovering all bodies.

It is believed that while entering into the sea for swimming, some members of the group could not be seen again. After an operation conducted in search of these individuals, their bodies were found.

The police said that there were 48 individuals in total, out of which 25 were boys, 17 were girls, and six were teachers. These people had come from a private coaching class at Alandi, Pune to Diveagar Beach, which was situated about 170 km away from Mumbai.

When the people were having their picnic, some people entered the sea to swim. Eight of them got drowned and never returned back to the shore.

This incident caused panic on the beach as the missing people were being searched.

Bodies Recovered After Search Operation

Local residents and authorities joined the search operation after the students were reported missing. The bodies of all eight victims were eventually recovered.

The bodies were taken to the Primary Health Centre in Borlipanchatan. They are expected to be handed over to their families after the required procedures are completed.

Preliminary information suggests that the students may have been unable to accurately judge the depth and strong currents of the sea. However, the exact circumstances leading to the drowning are expected to be established through the police investigation.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
