The political standoff between the Opposition and the Election Commission further escalated in New Delhi on Wednesday, when Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with INDIA MPs, went to Jantar Mantar for the continuation of their agitation against “vote chori”.

Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra led INDIA MPs protesting alleged Election Commission malpractice and ‘vote chori’ at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Delhi Police stopped their buses on Ashoka Road, prompting Priyanka Gandhi to stage a road protest and reinforcing the demand for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
The Opposition has been continuously pressing for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar amid allegations of malpractice by the Election Commission in the voting process.
The Election Commission has been continuously receiving flak from Opposition parties regarding the issue.
While the leaders and MPs were travelling to Jantar Mantar via buses, they were stopped by Delhi Police on Ashoka Road.
Priyanka Gandhi Lies On Road After Police Stop Protesters
The tension arose after Priyanka Gandhi refused to leave the locality where the buses were being stopped. The Wayanad MP sat on the road, and then she laid down protesting the actions of the police.

Talking to reporters, Priyanka Gandhi claimed that the opposition members of parliament are discriminated by the police because they asked to meet the election commissioner.
“I will not leave this place. This is what happens when Members of Parliament ask to meet the Election Commissioner,” she stated.
Priyanka Gandhi further said that the policemen had assaulted the protesters in this conflict.
“They have scratched me all over. We are thrown to the ground. Now, we are not moving from here,” Priyanka Gandhi said.
This happened in an area which was heavily guarded as the opposition was trying to protest against the election commission.
Rahul Gandhi Says Protest Will Continue
Rahul Gandhi had earlier announced that the Opposition would shift its protest to Jantar Mantar after restrictions were imposed on their previous demonstration.
“Yesterday, they said we cannot protest there, so we are taking the protest to Jantar Mantar,” Gandhi told reporters.
He also directly targeted CEC Gyanesh Kumar and repeated the Opposition’s demand for his resignation.
“Gyanesh Kumar will have to resign. I want 100 FIRs on me; every FIR is a medal,” Rahul Gandhi said.
His remarks came after he claimed that he already faced 45 FIRs and said he was prepared to face more cases in connection with the Opposition’s protests and campaign.
Opposition Pushes ‘Vote Chori’ Campaign
The Congress Party, along with its partners in the INDIA faction, have been together making accusations of “vote chori” and asking questions from the Election Commission regarding the process of voting.
The Opposition has sought greater responsibility from the polling body and especially from CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
“…we are all here united, and we are all here without any egos…We will fight these guys till they are out,” Rahul Gandhi emphasized.
The Opposition has expressed that its agitation will persist until its demands, including that of CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, are met.
