A 34-year-old woman, whose family believed she was pursuing an MBA in London, was found dead inside a rented apartment in Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad area. Her family discovered that she had secretly returned to India after noticing food delivery and online service transactions in her bank statements.

Mugdha Deshmukh, 34, was found deceased in a rented Pune apartment on Thursday, having secretly returned from London in August where her family believed she was studying; the cause of death is under investigation.
The woman, identified as Mugdha Deshmukh, was originally from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. She had travelled to the United Kingdom in July 2025 for higher studies but reportedly returned to India in August without informing her family.
Her body was discovered on Thursday at a residential complex in Gahunje, in Pimpri Chinchwad. Police said there were no visible injury marks on her body. The exact cause of death is yet to be established.
Family Believed Mugdha Was Still In London
As per an article published by the news agency PTI, Mugdha had been living alone in London and had even taken up some part-time jobs. They had been in constant touch with her via phone calls and messages and they had thought that she was studying there.
But they became worried since they were unable to reach her on October 24th. As her phone was turned off, Mugdha’s father, Avinash Deshmukh, lodged a missing complaint at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar police station in the last few days.
Her family members had even contacted one of her friends in London. The friend had said that the last time he had been in touch with Mugdha was on October 22nd.
But when he went to the London police station to lodge the missing complaint for her, he came to know that Mugdha had left the UK somewhere at the end of August. It has brought up more questions about her as they have no information of her coming back to India.
Food Delivery Transactions Led Family To Pune
While trying to track her whereabouts, the father looked at her bank statements, which revealed many dealings connected with the delivery of food and services on different dates ranging from October 8 to October 25.
It was discovered that one of these dealings had emanated from the Osmanpura area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The family started to speculate that she may have returned to India.
Subsequently, the family sought assistance from the Crime Branch of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. They also turned to the Indian authorities and Indian High Commission when it came to light that she had left the UK.
Following this, the police managed to locate her at the Lodha Belmondo apartment in Gahunje, Pimpri Chinchwad.
Police Find Her Dead Inside Rented Apartment
Senior Inspector Devendra Chavan of Shirgaon Police told PTI that officers reached the apartment where Mugdha was staying. With the help of a locksmith, they gained entry into the flat and found her body inside.
Police said there were no visible injury marks on her body. To establish the cause of death, samples from her internal organs have been preserved for further examination.
Investigators also found that Mugdha had rented the apartment in April. However, she reportedly started living there only after returning from the UK in August.
The circumstances surrounding her return to India, her stay in the apartment and her death are now part of the police investigation. The exact cause of death will be known after the medical examination and further investigation.
