Court Turns Down Bail for Bengaluru Doctor Accused of Killing Wife With Propofol Overdose

A city sessions court in Bengaluru has refused bail to Doctor Mahendra Reddy GS, who is accused of murdering his wife, dermatologist Dr. Kruthika Reddy, by administering an excessive dose of anaesthesia in April 2025. With the bail plea rejected, Reddy will continue to remain in judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison.

According to case records, Doctor Mahendra Reddy was working as a general physician at the Institute of Gastroenterology and Organ Transplant at Victoria Hospital. He was arrested by Marathahalli police in October 2025 after the post-mortem report of Kruthika Reddy revealed a significantly high level of anaesthetic drug, specifically Propofol, in her body.

Bengaluru Murder Case: Bail Denied Amid Serious Allegations

Investigators earlier filed a preliminary charge sheet outlining what they described as a planned killing. Police told the court that Reddy was allegedly unhappy with his wife’s reported health condition and had decided to eliminate her by deliberately administering an overdose of Propofol at their residence. Authorities believe this overdose directly led to her death.

Opposing the bail plea, Marathahalli police highlighted the strength of the evidence collected so far, particularly the extensive digital trail. Investigators said they had recovered “lakhs of digital files” from electronic devices, including PhonePe chat records, deleted data, and intimate photographs.

Digital Evidence and Messages Strengthen Prosecution Case

Among the key pieces of evidence cited in court were several alleged messages retrieved from the accused’s phone. One message reportedly read: “I don’t have proof, but I have killed Kruthika. I will go behind bars.”

In another message sent to a female medical professional, Reddy allegedly wrote: “Do not text or call me anywhere after you see this message. I will call you once everything is settled. Mostly police will call you to ask what’s our relation. Tell them we are friends…”

Police also claimed that a deleted group message sent to around five women stated: “I killed my wife for you.” These messages, investigators argued, point to both intent and attempts to manage the aftermath.

Investigators further informed the court that the couple had been married for about a year before the incident. Police submissions claimed that Reddy was in close contact with four to five women and had reportedly discussed marriage with some of them. These alleged relationships, combined with the digital evidence, were presented as part of the motive.

Given the seriousness of the allegations, the nature of the evidence, and the stage of the investigation, the court declined to grant bail. The case continues to be under judicial review as further proceedings are awaited.
