Police in West Bengal recovered around 100 crude bombs from a house in Bhangar, raising serious concerns just days before the next phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections.

The explosives were allegedly found at the residence of a person linked to the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The recovery has put security agencies on high alert as the state prepares for the second phase of polling.
Raid Based on Intelligence Inputs
According to officials, the bombs were seized during a search operation carried out at the house of Rafikul Islam in Bhangar, located in South 24 Parganas district.

The raid was conducted after police received specific intelligence inputs about the presence of explosives. Authorities acted quickly to prevent any possible threat ahead of the elections.
Election Commission Issues Strong Warning
Following the recovery, the Election Commission of India (EC) issued strict instructions to police and administrative officers.
Officials said that any use of explosives or intimidation tactics will not be tolerated. They warned that officers responsible for maintaining law and order in their areas would face action if such incidents occur under their watch.
The move reflects the seriousness with which the authorities are approaching election security.
Surveillance Increased in Sensitive Areas
Security has been stepped up across vulnerable locations, especially in areas going to polls in the next phase. Authorities are focusing on ensuring that voters can cast their votes freely and without fear.
Area domination exercises and continuous monitoring are being carried out to maintain peace and prevent any disturbances.
Large-Scale Security Plan for Next Phase
The Election Commission has announced a detailed and strict security plan for the second phase of voting, which will cover 142 constituencies on April 29.
During a high-level meeting involving senior police officials and central forces, several key measures were finalised. These include increased deployment of security personnel and better coordination between civil and police authorities.
One of the major steps includes the deployment of 160 motorcycles, each carrying two CAPF personnel, to patrol local areas and respond quickly to any situation.
Focus on Fear-Free Voting
Authorities have stressed that the main goal is to ensure that every voter can participate in the election process safely. With Bhangar among the constituencies going to polls in this phase, special attention is being given to the region.
The Election Commission has made it clear that any attempt to disrupt polling or intimidate voters will be dealt with strictly.
Elections Progress Amid Tight Security
The West Bengal Assembly elections began with the first phase on April 23, and the second phase is scheduled for April 29. Counting of votes for all 294 seats will take place on May 4.
As the state moves closer to the next phase, the recovery of crude bombs has highlighted the challenges of maintaining law and order during elections. However, with increased vigilance and strong security measures, authorities aim to ensure a peaceful and fair voting process.
