A 42-year-old transporter, identified as Chandra Prakash Sethi, allegedly died by suicide after consuming a poisonous substance, police said on Tuesday. Sethi’s family has accused a group of people of harassment linked to money disputes. Police said the allegations are being examined, and a case has been filed.

Police said Sethi’s body was found at the family home in New Industrial Township-2 on Monday night. Officers said the case was registered at the Kotwali police station. The FIR named eight people after police received a complaint from Sethi’s wife, Deepika, and found a suicide note.

Police said the family accused eight people of abetting suicide. The named accused are Saurabh Bhatia, Onkar Bhatia, Ajay Arora, Dharmender Kumar, Manish Goyal, Hina Arora, Gaurav Jha and Ravi Arora. A senior police officer said a probe is underway before any action.

Financial stress and harassment claims in Chandra Prakash Sethi case

In her complaint, Deepika alleged that Sethi faced severe financial strain for nearly two years. Deepika said the transport business was not doing well. Deepika also claimed Sethi borrowed money from several people and was later pressured over repayments and interest demands.

“My husband had borrowed Rs 15 lakh from several people, who were charging interest of up to 10 per cent. Despite repaying Rs 60 lakh, they continued to demand more money,\” Deepika said in her complaint.

Deepika alleged that the accused took possession of the family house. Deepika also claimed Sethi faced harassment for the last year. Police said these claims form part of the FIR and will be checked during the investigation along with the suicide note contents.

Property deal dispute in Chandra Prakash Sethi case

Deepika alleged that Sethi sold their three-storey house to a property dealer for Rs 2.60 crore. Deepika said the dealer later asked to cancel the deal and demanded the money back. Deepika claimed Sethi could not arrange the amount and faced pressure after that.

\”My husband did not have the funds, so the dealer started pressurising him. He could not take the stress and committed suicide,\” Deepika said.

Police said they are recording statements and collecting material linked to the money and property disputes. The senior police officer said action will follow only after facts are verified. The FIR remains under investigation, and police have not yet shared further findings in the Chandra Prakash Sethi case.
