A minor derailment involving the Vande Bharat Express was reported on Monday evening near Pune. Officials confirmed that no passengers were injured in the incident.
On Monday evening, the Mumbai-Solapur Vande Bharat Express experienced a minor derailment of its C-15 coach’s front trolley near Pune station, with no passengers injured; they were safely deboarded and transferred to another train.
The train was operating on the route between Mumbai and Solapur when the incident occurred.
According to railway officials, one trolley of the fourth coach of the train derailed while it was entering the platform at Pune station around 7:30 pm.
The derailment took place at a diamond crossing, which is a point where two railway tracks intersect.
Divisional Commercial Manager and PRO of the Pune Division, Hemant Kumar Behera says, “Today, when the Mumbai-Solapur Vande Bharat, train number 22225 was approaching platform number 3 at Pune, the front trolley of its C-15 coach derailed. All passengers are safe and no one has faced any issues. Our quick response team immediately reached the spot and is working to fix the problem at the earliest….”
Understanding Diamond Crossing
A diamond crossing is a special track structure where two railway lines cross each other at an angle, forming a diamond-like shape. This allows trains to pass across tracks without changing routes.
However, such crossings require careful maintenance and upgrades to ensure smooth train movement.
Immediate Action Taken by Railways
Officials said that passengers were safely deboarded after the incident. Many were seen carrying their luggage and walking towards the platform.
Railway authorities also arranged to shift passengers to another train (rake) to continue their journey without major delay.
Railway authorities have stated that the diamond crossing where the derailment occurred is already planned for replacement as part of ongoing yard remodelling work at Pune station.
They added that similar non-standard crossings across Indian Railways are being upgraded to improve safety and reduce the risk of such incidents in the future.
No Injuries, Situation Under Control
Despite the derailment, there were no reports of injuries, which officials described as a positive outcome. The situation was quickly brought under control, and railway staff managed the evacuation smoothly.
