In some places rain brings relief but in other places its an havoc. In a city like Mumbai, monsoon is scary, as every year it hold a same story with different number of casualties.

A ground plus three-storey building collapsed in Mumbai’s Mankhurd during heavy rainfall on Sunday night, resulting in six fatalities and prompting investigations into the safety of ageing residential structures.

In the latest development, a building collapsed in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area claimed the life of six people on Sunday night. It was a four storey building that came crashing down during heavy rainfall. SXeveral people were traffed under the debris calling for an immediate rescue operation.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of ageing residential buildings in the city, especially during the monsoon season.

Building Collapsed During Heavy Rain

One must know that the tragic accident took place around 8:30 pm at Chawl No 5 in Janta Nagar behind Hanuman Mandir in Mankhurd. The officials say that a portion of the ground plus three storey building suddenly collapsed, trapping residents inside the debris.

However, initial reports claim that the 2, 3 residential units in the chawl were damaged when the structure gave away. But the exact reason is yet to be known.

Six Dead, Rescue Teams Rush to Spot

In this tragic accident six people lost their lives. Though the rescue teams rushed to the spot just after the accident and began looking for the survivors. The Mumbai Fire Brigade, Police, BMC and the 108 ambulance service were all on their toes to carry out the rescue operation.

The debris was carefully removed from the scene to make sure the safety of those who were trapped inside.

The rescue operation continued for hours as the team aimed to rescue anyone who could be trapped inside. Heavy equipment and rescue tools were used to clear the debris, while local residents also gathered near the site hoping for updates about their family members and neighbours.

Authorities have started an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Structural experts are expected to inspect the damaged building to assess whether it had any signs of weakness before the incident.
