Residents across Delhi woke up to cooler and more comfortable weather on Thursday (April 30), bringing relief after several days of intense heat. While summer conditions are still present, a noticeable drop in temperature has made daily activities easier for many people.

Delhi experienced cooler temperatures with rain and thunderstorms on April 30 due to a western disturbance, with max temps around 36°C and AQI moderate. Intermittent relief is expected, with more rain likely from May 3.

Rain and Thunderstorm Forecast for Today

The India Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy skies along with light rain and thunderstorms in the city. These weather conditions are expected to be accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

Wind speeds may range between 30 to 40 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 50 km/h, especially during the evening hours. Residents are advised to stay cautious as storm activity could intensify later in the day.

Temperature Drops Across the City

The change in weather has already led to a drop in temperatures across several parts of Delhi. The maximum temperature is expected to stay around 36°C, while the minimum may be close to 21°C.

Key weather stations like Safdarjung, Palam, Lodhi Road, and Ridge have recorded lower temperatures compared to earlier in the week. Although Ayanagar remained slightly warmer, it too showed signs of stabilisation.

Why Is the Weather Changing?

Experts say the shift in weather is due to an incoming western disturbance, which is bringing clouds, winds, and rainfall to the region. Such systems are common during the pre-monsoon period and often lead to sudden changes in temperature.

What to Expect in the Coming Days

Weather experts believe that this relief may continue, but only in phases. Skies are expected to remain clearer on May 1 and 2, but another round of thunderstorms and rain is likely from May 3 onwards.

This means Delhi may continue to experience alternating periods of heat and relief over the next few days.

Air Quality Remains Moderate

Along with cooler weather, the city’s air quality has shown some improvement. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is currently in the moderate category at around 183.

While this is not considered dangerous, sensitive groups are still advised to limit prolonged outdoor exposure.

Overall, the current weather has brought a welcome break from the heatwave-like conditions. However, with fluctuating weather patterns, residents should remain prepared for sudden changes in the coming days.
