Amid intensifying heat wave conditions in Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed a wide-ranging set of precautionary and relief measures to protect citizens, especially vulnerable groups such as labourers, commuters, children, and outdoor workers.
Rekha Gupta stressed that while the heat wave affects everyone, its impact is most severe on daily wage workers and labourers who work for long hours under direct sunlight. In view of this, the government has issued strict directions that all workers-across both private and public sectors-must be given mandatory rest between 1 PM and 4 PM, when temperatures peak.
Amid Delhi’s intensifying heatwave, CM Rekha Gupta mandated worker rest from 1 PM to 4 PM, strengthened drinking water availability across the city, and directed hospitals to prepare for heat-related illnesses while schools provide water and ORS to students.
To ensure that people do not face dehydration or water scarcity while travelling, arrangements for drinking water have been strengthened across the city. In DTC buses, passengers are being provided access to drinking water, while trained volunteers have been deployed at major bus shelters to distribute water and ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution).
The Delhi government has also reviewed healthcare preparedness in view of rising heat-related illnesses. Hospitals across the city have been instructed to remain fully equipped with essential medicines, emergency treatment facilities, and dedicated cooling zones to provide immediate relief to heatstroke patients.
Schools in the capital have also been directed to ensure adequate arrangements for drinking water and ORS for students, particularly during outdoor activities, assemblies, and sports periods, to safeguard children from heat exhaustion.
In addition, volunteers have been deployed at multiple public locations to distribute protective items such as cotton mufflers and caps to help people shield themselves from direct sun exposure.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reiterated that the government is fully committed to ensuring public safety during the severe heat wave and appealed to citizens to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid unnecessary exposure to extreme heat during peak hours.
