Actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), received crucial support from several regional and Left parties to form the government in the state.

Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), winning 108 seats, is set to form the Tamil Nadu government after securing allied support from VCK and Left parties, crossing the 118-seat majority threshold required for governance.
The breakthrough came after Thol Thirumavalavan’s Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) extended “unconditional” support to the TVK, helping end the uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu.
TVK Crosses Majority Mark With Alliance Support
The TVK emerged as the single largest party in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly with 108 seats. However, the party remained short of the majority mark of 118 seats needed to form the government on its own.
The situation changed after support came from:
- Communist Party of India (CPI)
- Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M)
- VCK
- Indian Union Muslim League (IUML)
Each of these parties reportedly has two MLAs in the Assembly, pushing the alliance comfortably beyond the majority mark.
With the support now secured, TVK is expected to formally form the next government in the state.
Vijay Arrives At Lok Bhavan To Meet Governor
Following the political developments, Vijay arrived at Lok Bhavan in Chennai to meet Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and stake claim to form the government.
The Governor had reportedly given Vijay an appointment at 6:30 pm.
The meeting is expected to formally begin the process of government formation in Tamil Nadu after days of political discussions and alliance negotiations.
Supporters of Vijay gathered outside Lok Bhavan celebrating the development, with many calling it a historic moment in Tamil Nadu politics.
Vijay’s Political Journey Reaches Major Milestone
Vijay’s rise from film superstar to potential Chief Minister marks one of the biggest political shifts in Tamil Nadu in recent years.
The actor launched TVK with a promise of bringing clean politics, youth participation and governance reforms to the state. During the Assembly election campaign, he focused heavily on issues such as employment, education, corruption and welfare policies.
The strong performance of TVK surprised many political observers and established Vijay as a major force in Tamil Nadu politics within a short period.
Interestingly, Vijay himself won two Assembly seats, further strengthening his political position inside the party.
MK Stalin Congratulates TVK
Meanwhile, MK Stalin congratulated TVK after it secured the numbers required to form the government.
In a message posted on X, Stalin said the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) would not create obstacles in the formation of the new government.
He also stated that the DMK would perform the role of a constructive Opposition party in the Assembly. The statement is being seen as an important gesture amid the changing political landscape in Tamil Nadu.
A New Political Era In Tamil Nadu
If sworn in, Vijay’s appointment as Chief Minister would mark the beginning of a new political chapter in Tamil Nadu, a state traditionally dominated by Dravidian parties for decades. The coming days are expected to witness formal alliance discussions, cabinet formation and preparations for the oath-taking ceremony as TVK prepares to take charge of the state government for the first time.
