The Bharatiya Janata Party secured a massive victory in the Falta Assembly constituency after its candidate Debangshu Panda defeated CPI(M) candidate Sambhu Nath Kurmi by a huge margin of more than 1 lakh votes.

BJP candidate Debangshu Panda won the Falta Assembly seat, defeating CPI(M)’s Sambhu Nath Kurmi by over 1 lakh votes after repolling was mandated across all stations due to earlier irregularities.

The result comes after weeks of political tension, allegations of irregularities, repolling orders, and sharp accusations exchanged between major political parties in West Bengal.
According to the final results, Debangshu Panda secured 1,49,666 votes, while Sambhu Nath Kurmi received 40,645 votes.

Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla polled 10,084 votes.

Interestingly, former TMC candidate Jahangir Khan, who had withdrawn from the contest before polling, still received 7,783 votes during counting.

The Falta AC repoll counting today exposes glaring inconsistencies. By 3:30 pm in the afternoon today all 21 rounds were completed. On 4th May, till the same time, only 2- 4 rounds had taken place. The country deserves an explanation from the ECI.

Repoll Ordered Across Entire Constituency

The Falta election had already become one of the most discussed political contests in the state after the Election Commission of India ordered repolling across all 285 polling stations, including auxiliary booths.

The repoll was conducted on May 2 following reports of widespread disruptions and alleged irregularities during voting held earlier on April 29.

The Election Commission’s rare decision to order fresh polling across the constituency significantly raised political tensions and public attention around the election.

Jahangir Khan’s Exit Changed Political Equations

The political situation in Falta changed dramatically after TMC candidate Jahangir Khan announced his withdrawal from the contest ahead of polling.

Khan stated that he was stepping aside in the interest of public welfare and peace in the constituency.

However, his exit immediately altered the electoral battle and intensified speculation around the possible impact on vote distribution.

Despite withdrawing from the race, Khan still received several thousand votes during counting.

Abhishek Banerjee Raises Questions Over Counting Process

After the results were announced, senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee questioned the counting process and alleged irregularities.

In a post on X, Banerjee claimed there were “glaring inconsistencies” in the counting timeline.

According to him, all 21 counting rounds during the repoll were completed by 3:30 pm, while earlier counting processes had reportedly moved much slower.

Banerjee demanded an explanation from the Election Commission regarding the difference in counting speed.

TMC Alleges Worker Intimidation And Violence

Abhishek Banerjee also alleged that more than 1,000 TMC workers were forced to flee their homes before the election. He further claimed that party offices were vandalised even while the Model Code of Conduct remained in force.

According to Banerjee, the Election Commission failed to take action despite repeated complaints.

The TMC leader additionally accused election authorities of deleting names under the guise of SIR and questioned administrative decisions taken during the election period.

BJP Celebrates Massive Victory

Meanwhile, BJP leaders celebrated the result as a major political victory in West Bengal.
Party workers and supporters hailed the huge winning margin as a sign of growing support for the BJP in the state.

The Falta result is expected to further intensify the political rivalry between the BJP and TMC ahead of future electoral battles in West Bengal.

Political Tensions Continue In West Bengal

The Falta election has once again highlighted the deep political tensions and accusations that frequently surround elections in West Bengal.

With allegations of violence, administrative bias, and electoral irregularities continuing from multiple sides, the contest has become more than just a local assembly election.
As both the BJP and TMC continue attacking each other over the outcome, the Falta result is likely to remain a major political talking point in the coming days.
