Janhvi Kapoor’s make-up artist, Savleen Kaur Manchanda, has spoken in support of the actor amid the ongoing controversy. She shared a post on social media suggesting that Janhvi had expressed discomfort with certain scenes and camera angles featured in the film.

Janhvi Kapoor’s make-up artist defended her amid controversy over alleged objectification in ‘Peddi’, while director Buchi Babu Sana apologised for offensive scenes and vowed revisions, despite the film earning over ₹190 crore globally.

Make-Up Artist Shares Post In Support Of Janhvi

On Saturday, Savleen reposted an Instagram Story claiming that Janhvi had objected, during the post-production phase, to specific shots. According to the post, the actor had questioned scenes that crossed professional boundaries and contradicted her public stance against the objectification of women in cinema.

The post further alleged that Janhvi had raised concerns regarding particular camera angles used while filming. It argued that despite her objections, the footage remained in the final cut of the movie. The message suggested that it was a creative decision by the director, who prioritised box-office numbers over the actor’s concerns.

Alleged Messages Add Fuel To The Discussion

In the wake of the backlash, screenshots allegedly showing conversations between Janhvi and several fan clubs began circulating online. The messages appeared to indicate that the actor repeatedly voiced her discomfort about the way some sequences were being filmed.

One widely shared screenshot, reportedly dated October 30, claimed Janhvi had specifically requested that close-up shots focusing on her chest and waist not be included. In the alleged conversation, she also mentioned that a senior member of the team had intervened and instructed the filmmaker to avoid such angles.

However, Janhvi has not publicly commented on either the controversy or the authenticity of the circulating messages.

Audience Backlash

Much of the criticism has centred on Achiyyamma’s introduction in the film. Viewers argued that there is no proper establishment of her personality or role in the story.

Several scenes reportedly prioritise the character’s appearance over her development.
Another sequence that drew criticism involves Peddi pursuing Achiyyamma despite her apparent lack of interest. A later scene, in which he kisses her during a power outage without her consent, has also been described as problematic.

Buchi Babu Sana’s Response

Following the online backlash, Buchi Babu Sana addressed the issue through a statement on X. The filmmaker apologised to those who felt offended by the portrayal. He further clarified that there was never any intention to disrespect women through the film’s content.

He acknowledged the audience’s concerns and confirmed that modifications would be made to the scenes that had drawn criticism. The director stated that the team had reviewed the feedback and decided to revise the contentious portions of the movie.

‘Peddi’ Box Office Collection

While the debate surrounding the film continues, Peddi has maintained impressive momentum at the box office. The sports drama has reportedly earned around ₹126 crore net in India and crossed ₹190 crore worldwide.

The film features an ensemble cast led by Ram Charan, alongside Janhvi Kapoor, Boman Irani, Divyenndu, and Shiva Rajkumar in pivotal roles.
