Mumbai’s lifeline, the suburban local train network, will face major disruptions on Sunday as both Western Railway and Central Railway carry out scheduled maintenance work across key routes. The railway authorities have announced multiple mega blocks and jumbo blocks, leading to the cancellation of several local train services for several hours during the day.
Major disruptions affect Mumbai’s local trains on Sunday due to Western Railway’s jumbo block on the Harbour Line (Bandra-Goregaon) and Central Railway’s mega blocks impacting the Harbour Line (CSMT-Bandra) and Main Line overnight, alongside special train services between Panvel and Kurla.
Commuters travelling across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and adjoining suburbs have been advised to check train schedules in advance and make alternate travel arrangements wherever possible.
Western Railway Announces Jumbo Block
Western Railway has scheduled a Jumbo Block on the Harbour Line section between Bandra and Goregaon from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm on Sunday.
During this period:
All CSMT-Bandra-CSMT Harbour Line services will remain cancelled.
CSMT/Panvel-Goregaon-CSMT/Panvel Harbour Line trains operated by Central Railway will also not run.
Several Churchgate-Goregaon-Churchgate slow local services on Western Railway will be cancelled as well.
Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek said that the detailed list of cancelled and partially cancelled trains will be available with Station Masters across the suburban network to help passengers plan their journeys.
Central Railway to Carry Out Midnight and Daytime Mega Blocks
Apart from the Western Railway maintenance work, Central Railway has also announced a series of blocks affecting both the Main Line and Harbour Line.
Midnight Block on Main Line
A special overnight mega block will be undertaken between Byculla and Vidyavihar on both the UP and DOWN fast lines from 12:45 am to 3:45 am on the intervening night of June 13-14.
The block is part of ongoing construction work related to the Sion Road Over Bridge (ROB) project. While the work is scheduled during the late-night hours to minimise inconvenience, some overnight suburban services may be affected.
Harbour Line Services to Remain Suspended for Several Hours
Central Railway will also implement a daytime mega block on the Harbour Line between CSMT, Chunabhatti, and Bandra.
The maintenance schedule is as follows:
- DOWN direction: 11:40 am to 4:40 pm
- UP direction: 11:10 am to 4:10 pm
As a result, train services between CSMT, Vashi, Belapur, Panvel, Bandra, and Goregaon will remain suspended for much of the afternoon. Services heading towards CSMT from these destinations will also be affected.
The temporary suspension is expected to impact thousands of daily commuters, especially those travelling for weekend work, shopping, or leisure activities.
Special Trains and Alternative Travel Options
To reduce inconvenience during the block period, Central Railway has announced that special local trains will operate between Panvel and Kurla every 20 minutes.
Additionally, Harbour Line passengers will be allowed to use the Main Line and Western Railway network for their journeys between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, offering some relief to those affected by the cancellations.
Railway officials have urged passengers to take advantage of these alternative arrangements and plan their routes accordingly.
No Daytime Main Line Block Between CSMT and Kalyan
In a relief for commuters using the Main Line, Central Railway clarified that no daytime mega block will be imposed between CSMT and Kalyan on Sunday. Regular services on this stretch are expected to operate as per schedule, except for any minor operational adjustments.
Passengers Advised to Check Before Travelling
With maintenance work scheduled across multiple routes, railway authorities have advised commuters to verify train timings and cancellation lists before leaving home. Updated information will be available through station announcements, Station Masters’ offices, and official railway communication channels.
The maintenance work is part of the railways’ ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure and improve safety and operational efficiency. However, passengers are advised to expect delays and crowding on alternative routes during the affected hours.
Those planning to travel on Sunday should leave extra time for their journeys and consider alternate modes of transport if possible.
