With the NEET UG 2026 re-examination just days away, a growing number of students are urging the authorities to postpone the test. More than 1,400 aspirants from across the country have reportedly submitted a representation requesting that the National Testing Agency (NTA) defer the June 21 re-exam by at least a month.
The appeal comes amid ongoing concerns over the impact of the re-examination on students, many of whom say they are dealing with uncertainty, emotional stress, and inadequate preparation time.
Representation Submitted on Behalf of Students
Advocate Vineet Jindal, who has previously represented students in matters related to CBSE Class 12 revaluation, has now submitted a formal representation to the Ministry of Education and the NTA on behalf of 1,467 NEET aspirants.
In his letter, Jindal argued that students should not be made to bear the consequences of circumstances that led to the cancellation and re-conduct of the examination.

“The students are not responsible for the circumstances that led to the cancellation and re-conduct of the examination. However, they are presently bearing the burden of uncertainty, anxiety, and disruption caused by this unfortunate incident,” the representation states.
Students Cite Mental Stress and Emotional Pressure
According to the representation, many candidates had completed their preparation cycle and had already appeared for the examination. After the test, several students had shifted their focus towards counselling, admission processes, and other academic commitments.
The sudden announcement of a re-examination, the letter says, has forced them to restart their preparation under difficult circumstances.
Jindal stated that students have reported experiencing mental stress, anxiety, sleep disturbances, emotional trauma, and a loss of concentration due to the uncertainty surrounding the examination process.
The representation argues that such conditions make it difficult for aspirants to prepare effectively for one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations.
Demand for More Preparation Time
The letter further points out that NEET is an exam that typically requires months of sustained preparation. According to the students, the time gap between the cancellation of the earlier examination and the scheduled re-test is too short for meaningful revision.
The representation also highlights the concerns of students who had performed well in the earlier examination and now feel disadvantaged by being asked to appear again despite not being involved in any wrongdoing.
“Students who had performed well in the earlier examination are particularly aggrieved, as they are being required to reappear despite having committed no wrongdoing. Such circumstances raise serious concerns regarding fairness and equal opportunity for all candidates,” the letter states.
Rural Students Face Additional Challenges
Apart from academic concerns, the representation also raises logistical issues faced by candidates from rural and remote areas.
Many students, it says, require additional time to arrange travel, accommodation, and other necessities before reaching their examination centres. The short notice period has reportedly made these arrangements difficult for several families.
The letter also mentions that prolonged stress and uncertainty have affected the health and well-being of some candidates.
According to Jindal, restoring confidence in the examination system requires giving students a fair opportunity to prepare without excessive pressure.
Aspirants Seek One-Month Delay
Through the representation, the 1,467 students have requested that the NEET UG 2026 re-examination be postponed by one month. They have also urged the authorities to announce a revised examination schedule after providing adequate notice to all candidates.
As of now, there has been no official response from the NTA or the Ministry of Education regarding the request.
NEET UG Re-Exam Scheduled for June 21
The NTA is scheduled to conduct the NEET UG 2026 re-examination on June 21 (Sunday) after the original examination, held on May 3, was cancelled following allegations of a question paper leak.
This year, more than 22 lakh students appeared for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), one of the country’s largest and most competitive entrance examinations for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses.
The NTA has already issued admit cards for the re-examination, and preparations for conducting the test are underway.
While the examination remains scheduled as planned, the growing demand for a postponement reflects the concerns of a section of aspirants who believe additional time is necessary to ensure a fair and stress-free opportunity to compete.
