Siya Goyal, the 20-year-old arrested in connection with the murder of her fiance Ketan Agarwal (26), had informed her family that her friendship with lover Chetan Chaudhary (22) had ended after her marriage date with Ketan was fixed, Pune Rural police said.
According to the Pune police, the murder accused Siya’s brother Sahil Goyal informed that Siya had told her family that she had cut off all the contact with co-accused Chetan Chaudhary after she was engaged to Ketan.
Pune police accuse Ketan Agarwal’s fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, of conspiring to murder him by pushing him off Lohagad Fort on June 18, citing extensive communication and deleted evidence between the accused.
However, Chetan re-entered Siya’s life later as she was unable to come to terms with marrying Ketan. After which, Siya allegedly became adamant and did not want to go ahead with the marriage with Ketan and she began to find a way out of the situation.
It was during this period that Chetan Chaudhary and Siya Goyal conspired to murder Ketan Agarwal, according to police.
For the unversed, 25-year-old Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal died after allegedly being pushed off a cliff at Lohagad Fort on June 18. Police have accused Ketan’s fiancee Siya and her alleged boyfriend Chetan of planning and executing the murder. Ketan and Siya were scheduled to marry in November.
Before the marriage was finalised, the couple’s horoscopes were matched in January. The family astrologer reportedly found a compatibility score of 27 out of 36 gunas with no dosh at all.
The assessment also placed Ketan in the Dev Gana category and Siya in the Manushya Gana category.
Investigators claim that after the engagement, Siya attempted for nearly two months to accept and build her relationship with Ketan, while almost stopping all contact with Chetan.
However, Pune police allege that Chetan later returned to her life and the equation changed. Siya gradually became determined not to go ahead with the marriage and began searching for a way to avoid it.
Police claim that despite telling family members she had broken off contact with Chetan, the two remained in regular communication.
Investigators claim they exchanged 2,004 phone calls and spent nearly 238 hours speaking before the murder.
Authorities further allege that both accused deleted chats from their mobile phones before June 18 and again after the incident in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Their mobile phones have now been sent for forensic analysis to recover deleted conversations and reconstruct the timeline of events.
Investigators have also pointed to alleged online searches, deleted digital trails and planning conversations. According to police, the accused searched the internet and watched videos on ways to kill Ketan before allegedly deciding that pushing him from Lohagad Fort would be the least risky option.
Meanwhile, the investigation team in the Ketan Agarwal murder case is preparing to conduct a polygraph test on Siya Goyal. Investigators are expected to seek court approval and believe the test could help answer several unresolved questions in the case. Under Indian law, both the court’s permission and the consent of the person being tested are required before a polygraph examination can be conducted.
Polygraph test results are not considered conclusive evidence and are not directly admissible in Indian courts. Investigators are reportedly considering the test as there is no direct evidence, such as CCTV footage or eyewitness testimony, conclusively establishing that Ketan Agarwal was allegedly murdered by Siya Goyal and her co-accused, Chetan Chaudhary. Police are instead relying on digital and circumstantial evidence, including forensic analysis of the accused’s mobile phones, call records, deleted messages, location data, available CCTV footage and statements from family members, to build their case.
