Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached a major milestone on Wednesday. He is now India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister. He has completed 4,399 days in office. This total surpasses the record of Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru was India’s first Prime Minister. Modi has now served for over 12 years.
Nehru served from 1947 until his death in 1964. Yet, those years included time before the first general election. Indira Gandhi served for nearly 16 years in total. However, she served across two separate terms. Modi assumed office on May 26, 2014. He has since won three consecutive mandates.

The BJP has grown significantly under his leadership. The party is now a dominant political force in India. It has expanded into new regions across the country. It has also broadened its support base among many communities. The party recently won major seats in West Bengal and Assam.
National Democratic Alliance leaders plan to honour the Prime Minister. Some 72 alliance leaders will meet to mark this occasion. They are expected to pass a special resolution. They will also felicitate Modi for his governance and leadership. The meeting will highlight his long tenure in office.
Modi spoke about his 12-year journey in government. He said it was dedicated to development and trust. He thanked the 1.4 billion citizens of India. He spoke of the spirit of putting the nation first. He highlighted efforts to empower youth, women, and farmers.
He also noted India’s new global identity. This has come through infrastructure and the digital revolution. BJP president Nitin Nabin also offered his praise. He cited major gains in economic growth and welfare. He pointed to housing, sanitation, and Mudra loans. He also noted success in national security.
Nabin praised the abrogation of Article 370. He also welcomed efforts against terrorism and extremism. International leaders also sent congratulatory messages. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake praised the milestone. He called it a sign of trust. Papua New Guinea leader James Marape called Modi a role model.
