A severe storm with heavy rain killed at least 33 people in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Officials reported deaths across five districts, with major damage from fallen trees and collapsing walls. Many incidents happened as people sought shelter from strong winds. The state government ordered quick relief and compensation for affected families.

At least 33 people were killed after a powerful storm and heavy rain damaged parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Bhadohi, Fatehpur, and Budaun. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to provide compensation and complete relief work within 24 hours. Local authorities reported uprooted trees, damaged homes, and disrupted mobile networks.

Officials said Bhadohi recorded 16 deaths, Fatehpur nine, Budaun five, Chandauli two and Sonbhadra one. Several people were also hurt in storm-related accidents. District teams and police began inspections and support work soon after the weather turned severe.

Uttar Pradesh storm deaths and injuries across districts

In Bhadohi, Additional District Magistrate Kunwar Virendra Kumar Maurya said uprooted trees and electricity poles damaged houses in several areas. Maurya said rescue and repair work was harder as mobile networks failed. Maurya said sub-divisional magistrates, tehsildars, other officials and police were active across the district’s three tehsils.

In a post on X, Bhadohi police said that 16 people died in separate incidents in the district due to a dust storm, while six were injured, of whom two were serious. Officials continued checking affected localities. Damage reports also included broken power lines and blocked roads in some places.

In Fatehpur, nine persons were killed, and 16 were injured in storm-related incidents. Additional District Magistrate Avinash Tripathi said, Eight persons, including five women, were killed in Khaga tehsil, in Sadar tehsil, one woman was killed due to a house wall collapse. A total of nine deaths have been reported in storm-related incidents, while 16 people were injured.

Uttar Pradesh storm damage in Budaun incidents

In Budaun, five people died in separate incidents linked to a dust storm and rain. Police sources said two minor girls died in Siddhpur Kaitholi village under Bisoli police station limits. Mausami 10 and Rajni 9 were crushed when a mud wall of a hut collapsed during the storm.

Officials said the girls had taken shelter in the hut with two women, Kallo and Neha, after strong winds began. The wall fell, trapping all four under debris. The two girls died on the spot. The women suffered serious injuries and were taken for medical care.

In Tark Paroli village under Faizganj Behta police station area, Laxmi 40 died after a tree fell on a tubewell room. Several people were sheltering inside at the time. The roof collapsed and injured three others, including Geeta. Officials said Geeta’s condition was critical.

Police said Yogesh 32, a truck driver, died near Bilsi Road in the Bisoli area. A eucalyptus tree was uprooted and fell onto the vehicle. In another case, Anshul Sharma 22 from Sahukara locality in Bisoli died later. A tree hit Anshul Sharma during the storm while delivering food to Anshul Sharma’s father.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rural Hridesh Kumar Kataria said five people died in incidents in Bisoli and Faizganj Behta police station areas. Kataria said around five others were injured. Officials continued to collect details from villages and roadside accident locations after the storm eased.

Uttar Pradesh storm fatalities in Sonbhadra and Chandauli

In Sonbhadra, police said Madhav Singh 38 died in the Punnuganj police station area. Madhav Singh stopped and stood under a tree for shelter. The tree fell during the storm and caused fatal injuries. Officials recorded the death as storm-related and began local verification.

In Chandauli, two people died in separate incidents in the Chakia police station area, police said. Munni 55 died after a wall collapsed. Prabhavati 65 died after a tree fell on Prabhavati. District staff checked the sites and noted damage from strong winds and rainfall.

Uttar Pradesh storm relief orders from Yogi Adityanath

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to give compensation for unseasonal rain, thunderstorms and lightning strikes. Adityanath said relief work for affected families should be completed within 24 hours. Adityanath warned that negligence in relief work would not be tolerated by the state government.

Taking cognisance of losses to life, livestock and property, Adityanath expressed condolences to bereaved families. Adityanath directed district magistrates and other departments to reach affected areas and provide all possible help. Adityanath also ordered officials to stay on alert mode as assessments continued.

Adityanath instructed the revenue and agriculture departments, along with insurance companies, to survey the damage. Officials were asked to submit reports to the government after checking losses on the ground. Adityanath said compensation should be provided immediately after assessment of the losses.
