Five women in Kota, Rajasthan, experiencing kidney failure post-childbirth, have stopped dialysis after 70 days demanding transplants. They appealed to President Droupadi Murmu for intervention or permission for euthanasia due to unbearable pain and alleged medical negligence.

The deceased mothers have been receiving treatment for nearly 70 days and are demanding immediate kidney transplants, saying that they cannot bear the physical and emotional pain of repeated dialysis.

After a 48-hour deadline given to the district administration passed without any written assurance regarding kidney transplantation, the women wrote to President Droupadi Murmu, seeking urgent intervention. They said that if the government cannot arrange transplants, they should be allowed to opt for euthanasia.

Mothers Say They Cannot Continue Living on Dialysis

The deceased five women-Dhanni Suman, Ragini Meena, Sushila Mahawar, Pinki Airwal and Aarti Chaubdar-are admitted to Kota’s New Medical College Hospital since early May after suffering kidney failure following C-section deliveries.

Based on their families, each woman has undergone nearly 32 dialysis sessions in the past two months. As the dialysis is required every two days, the deceased women get exhausted and weak.

One of the women said that she no longer wanted to live a life that is dependent on repeated dialysis. She appealed to the government to arrange a possible kidney transplant as soon as possible saying that she is a mother of two young children at home and has been away from her family since delivery.

Families Appeal for Immediate Help

The families say that the deceased women have been living between hope and despair for more than 2 months. One of the mothers said that she couldn’t hold or spend time with her newborn. Not just this, another patient described the side effects after each dialysis – fever, vomiting dizziness and weakness.

The women’s kin claim that they have approached the district Collector, and the state government everal times but have not received any support.

Dhanni Suman’s husband said that if there is no written commitment for Kidney Transplants, they will stop bringing the women for dialysis because the constant procedure are unbearable.

Letter Sent to President Murmu

With no breakthrough in sight, the women have written to President Droupadi Murmu requesting intervention. Appealing to her they said, they have been fighting Kidney failure for about 70 days and now are not able to bear constant pain and stress. They went on urging the government to arrange kidney transplant with any delay or allow them the right to euthanasia (the practice (illegal in most countries) of killing somebody without pain who wants to die because they are suffering from a disease that cannot be cured).

Women Allege Medical Negligence

The deceased women have alleged that medical negligence in their C-SEction surgeries led to their kidney failure. They claim that the medicines administration during treatment but all such allegations have been denied by the hospital authorities. The doctors at the hospital have been receiving free treatment and that their condition has improved since admission.
