TMC chief Mamata Banerjee accused BJP of targeting her party and forcing leaders like Madan Mitra to defect using probe agencies, while defending nephew Abhishek Banerjee and vowing to continue fighting despite resignations.

Mamata Reacts Strongly to Madan Mitra’s Exit

As soon Madan Mitra left TMC and joined the rebel group led by Ritabrata Banerjee, Mamata said those who have a problem and want to leave TMC can leave, they are free to do so. She also accused BJP for targeting her party and want to destroy it.

Mamata while claiming opponents wants to end her said, “BJP wished for me to get a heart attack, I will live till I see your end.”

On the other hand, Madan Mitra said he has “only changed my room in the Assembly.” He also said that he took this decision after his demand of TMC’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee “step aside for six months” was not accepted.

Mamata Defends Abhishek Banerjee

Mamata Banerjee defended her nephew Abhishek Banerjee in the whole matter and said Madan Mitra took this decision after Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned his wife and two sons, and it has nothing to do with Abhishek Banerjee.

While defending her nephew, Mamata Banerjee said, “Abhishek Banerjee has been turned into an excuse. His family members were summoned. Had he wanted, he could have got relief. But he did not run away from the battlefield. The way he has continued to fight, all his flaws have been forgiven.”

She also said that she praise Abhishek Banerjee to continue his fights politically despite his family members have been summoned.

Mamata Targets Rebel Leaders

Mamata Banerjee criticised the leaders who have left TMC and said that they left if after left no choice under pressure.

“I apologise before the people on behalf of the traitors. I have not sold my ‘bibek’ (conscience) for political survival,” she said.

She also added, “Had I compromised, we would not have faced so much torture. Those who have compromised have many bags and luggage of their own.”

She accused BJP for using investigation agencies and ED to force leaders to join BJP. She also mentioned many leaders from her party joined BJP to save themselves and “setting company”.

Mamata also mentioned that despite multiple leaders left the party TMC still holds 18 MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and it is still strong opponent.

TMC Leader Expresses Sadness Over Mitra’s Decision

Senior TMC leader Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay said that he and the party are very disappointment with this development.

He said, “…I am sad that he had to leave us and go. There was no need for him to quit. But they summoned his son and wife. So, he must have lost his mental strength and had to quit.”

In the last few months, TMC has seen many major setbacks when many big names from the party left TMC and joined BJP. While, Mamata Banerjee has made it clear she will continue to fight against opponents.
