It is the second day of the Parliament monsoon session and undoubtedly the opposition’s ruckus led to the adjournment till 2pm today. However after the session was adjourned – Leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday criticised the Modi government for not allowing the discussion on the NEET UG 2026 row.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the Modi government during Parliament’s monsoon session for blocking discussion on the NEET UG 2026 controversy and alleged violence against protesting students.

Rahul said that when they approached the Speaker of the parliament to allow the discussion on the students’ protest and the paper leak, the speaker said that he will have to take permission from the government.

“We went to the Speaker and told him that we wanted a discussion on the student protest. The Speaker said he would have to ask the government for permission. It is shocking that even for a debate in Parliament, permission has to come from the government,” Gandhi said.

He added that the students protesting over the examination controversy were subjected to violence and the Prime Minister should apologise for what happened.

‘This Is About the Future of the Youth’

Rahul Gandhi said the protests were centred on the condition of India’s education and examination system. “This is about students. It is about the future of the youth. Students are protesting because they believe the education system and the testing system are broken,” he said.

He further claimed that the country’s testing system had been severely weakened.
“The testing system has been hollowed out by termites. That is all the students are saying,” Gandhi remarked.

Rahul Questions PM Modi’s Silence

The Congress MP questioned PM Modi’s silence. He alleged that the protesters were assaulted during the demonstrations. “People are being beaten. It is completely against the spirit of India. Why is the Prime Minister silent? He should apologise to the students for what happened yesterday,” Gandhi said.

His remarks came a day after protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination led to clashes in parts of Delhi.

Rahul Gandhi also said, “Why is the Prime Minister silent? What is the reason? He should apologise to the students and stop this nonsense of police personnel thrashing students. This is completely wrong. This is no way to treat the young people of this country. They have no opportunities. The only door open to them is that of competitive examinations, and that door has also been destroyed. These students are not just complaining about the education system; they are speaking about their future. They are saying that today, because of Mr Adani and Mr Ambani, because of the RSS’s complete takeover of the education system, and because pracharaks are becoming vice-chancellors of universities, they have no future. This is not just about education; it is about the future of the country’s youth.”
