Tamil actress Jyothika, wife of Suriya, has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in connection with the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.

In a post on Instagram, she extended the support to the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar while hailing the Gen Z generation for speaking up fearlessly and standing up for accountability.

Actress Jyothika demanded Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over NEET exam irregularities, supporting activists like Sonam Wangchuk protesting at Jantar Mantar as the CJP delegation seeks reforms and clarity on the minister’s accountability.

“Step down Dharmendra Pradhan. Resign. I stand with the students and future of our nation. I stand with accountability. I stand for a democratic India. I stand for a reformed education,” she said.

The 47-year-old praised activists activists Sonam Wangchuk, Abhijeet Dipke and Saurav Das for leading the movement.

She said, “As mothers, we want to raise our children to be like you.” She went on to say that she was proud of Gen Z for being “unfiltered” and added, “You have proved that together ‘we’ are India. Thank you for breaking the pressure. Thank you for making us fearless.”

While many celebrities have extended their support, not many have demanded the resignation of the minister.

Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Dia Mirza, Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Ayesha Khan, Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah and Prakash Raj are some of the actors who have voiced their support for the Genz protest.

Meanwhile, the stage is set for the second meeting between the government and the Cockroach Janta Party leaders. The CJP delegation, represented by activists Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, Abhijeet Dipke and Deepak Balyan, agreed to the talks after the government reportedly accepted two of its conditions. However, the government has not shown willingness to sack Pradhan.

“They had given us the time for 3.30-4 pm today. The location has not been finalised yet. Discussions are very clear. We should get written confirmation for the two demands on which there has been in-principle agreement. So that they can be closed. We need clarity over Dharmendra Pradhan – whether they will seek his resignation or not. We want an answer in Yes or No because there is not much scope for deliberation over this,” ANI quoted Ranka as stating.

The Cockroach Janta Party launched the NEET and examination-related protests at Jantar Mantar on June 6. Their primary demand has been reforms in the education system to fix the leaks and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Ladakhi environmentalist and education activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the demonstration at Jantar Mantar on June 28. He started an indefinite hunger strike and he was forcefully taken to hospital on July 18.
